Well, we knew Palm and Cingular were launching the Treo 750 on January 7th (i.e. the unofficial first day of CES), but now we've got the full skinny on the release. Customers will be able to get theirs at Cingular retail stores, or Cingular or Palm's online stores on January 8th for $399 with two year service agreement (and $100 mail-in rebate). Oh, did we mention the 750's gonna come with that sweet threaded messaging app we've been waiting for (well, some of us haven't been waiting for it), and has a free HSDPA upgrade due in 1H06? Check out the rest of Cingular's launch presentation after the break. Have a nice week, Treo fans.

Sweet, but $400 is a little expensive!
A Gupta @ Jan 4th 2007 2:28PM
HSDPA due 1st half, '06??
Christopher Hill @ Jan 4th 2007 2:29PM
I've been waiting for this thing for a few months now. My wish has FINALLY been granted! Too bad I can't upgrade my phone for another 4-6 months...
Aaron W @ Jan 4th 2007 2:38PM
$400 after 2-year contract and probably a MIR! I dont need this phone one bit, but will probably have a yard sale to get some money for it.
Tom K. @ Jan 4th 2007 2:42PM
Palm rules!
See the funny picture of MOTO Q ;)

It's actually $499 before the rebate w/2 year activation. You only get the rebate if you buy the expensive data plan. Still a sweet phone though. *drool*
zed @ Jan 4th 2007 2:46PM
Doesn't the press embargo notice mean that Engadget isn't supposed to release this until next week? I sure hope they got permission to do so :-) I would hate for Cingular to give the cold shoulder for future releases.
Jim @ Jan 4th 2007 2:59PM
Cingular store has a price list saying the following:
$649 - No Contract
$399 - 2 yr contract & $100 MIR with a media PKG
This phone could be as low as $299
Scott @ Jan 4th 2007 3:11PM
And here I was, about to try and extort a decent deal out of Sprint (current carrier) for a new 700p. Har. :)
bkessler @ Jan 4th 2007 3:21PM
$650 with no contract? Ouch...
Joe @ Jan 4th 2007 3:32PM
Glad I grabbed the 750v with a leather case for $500 now. It's running the Cingular ROM, and I enabled HSDPA via a hack.
ralphieboy @ Jan 4th 2007 3:31PM
no mention of blackberry connect support, any clues as to why not?
jmg_NX21 @ Jan 4th 2007 4:01PM
*Damn... sure looks to be true... WM5 Treo may be the NEW flagship... and PALM OS for the rest of us...
=/
Can't blame them if it makes business sense.
Too bad it's UTMS/HSDPA is not using EUROPEAN bands to make it more competitive there...
Jon @ Jan 4th 2007 4:03PM
Hows the hack working?
Will you post instructions?
John @ Jan 4th 2007 4:13PM
The blackberry connect software may have patent issues related to the original blackberry suit.
No WiFi built in????? Even with the switchover to PPC/WM Palm/Access is setting itself up for a ride straight into the dustbin if they continue to have carriers dictate design specs. Of course, with the 680 rollout, the brain trust at Cingular has boxed them selves into operating a two teir data network for the forseable future. Smart move, morons.
At $650 plus for an unlocked or contract free purchase you might as well get an HTC Hearld (or Hermes) and get the added WiFi.
Anthony @ Jan 4th 2007 7:20PM
How is it that Palm is getting away with charging that much for this. 649.99 for this?! It doesn't include wifi, HSDPA is not enabled out of the box (I need a hack!) and it's got that all so great 240 by 240 screen. Aside from the form factor (which at this point is pretty much the only reason to consider this) this is NOT a better purchase than the 8525 or TyTN or any Hermes variant. That whole one handed thing and the palm specific dodads does not justify the 700 price with tax. I have a 8525 and I use it with one hand just fine...besides, a WinMO phone without a scroll wheel is so strange to me now.
Dan Levy @ Jan 4th 2007 4:21PM
im going to guess that 1H06 = 1st half of june
just because 1st half of 2006 makes zero sense lol unless its a massive typo and they meant 2007
Khaled @ Jan 7th 2007 1:58PM
This phone will do great at the Enterprise as more people using exhange and office. Also with Microsoft Link.
It will also do great with hardcore smartphone users who wants the best functinality and the prestiege of the Brand.
Shane @ Jan 4th 2007 8:02PM
jmg_NX21, the 750 does support UMTS/HSDPA on the European band. If you notice it has tri band UMTS (850/1900/2100) The 2100 band is for Europe/Asia. So it is a true world traveler.
Romik @ Jan 5th 2007 2:11PM
NO WiFi = PALM SUCKS!!!!
whoster69 @ Jan 4th 2007 5:16PM
Nice phone and all, but why bother when the 8525 is out and blows this away with it's specs and costs the same!
Will @ Jan 4th 2007 6:30PM
WiFi is pretty pointless when you have HSDPA. Unless you've got a torrent client or some other need for crazy bandwidth that your phone can't handle or put anywhere.
Just Learning @ Jan 4th 2007 9:34PM
Can someone help me understand, in simple terms, the significant advantages of the 750 to the old 600? I have to convince my wife the money is worth it--looks like the camera is much better, but what else? IPOD features? I'm not too up on technology, so any help is really appreciated. Thank you!
Jim @ Jan 4th 2007 6:46PM
The HSDPA and UMTS Frequencies are identical to Europe. If it wasn't then everyone who went out and bought the 750V wouldn't be able to access them here. One of my coworkers bought the 750v while in Europe and the UMTS AND HSDPA work on both continents fine. HSDPA is already live in SF and certain surrounding areas, like within 3 miles of the Cingular Campus in Pleasanton. Its hilarious everytime Cingular comes up with a new Technology or Feature, you are always able to access it as you pass by that Campus. It never Fails.
Robert Manikowski @ Jan 4th 2007 7:31PM
The price is a bit high.
I just got the 680. I would have rather got the 750 if I knew it was going to come out a month later. I kept reading it was going to be put off.
Oh well.. $600 for the phone is a bit too much.
Mike @ Jan 4th 2007 7:31PM
$149.99 from Amazon.com, ordered back in November, supposedly shipping on 8 January
Matt. T. @ Jan 4th 2007 7:41PM
$400 or $650.....A bit expensive eh,Palm?
Shaun McKee @ Jan 4th 2007 8:35PM
I've been waiting 7 months!!!! I just took my 8525 back after a saw this. I love WM5, but I love my treo 680's form factor even more. Next week Treo 750...I almost can't belive it.
SLS @ Jan 4th 2007 9:06PM
All the connectivity is great, sure the Treo could use more ram and screen resolution. I'm looking for the long overdue user friendly ui.
Intuitive navigation will be the next "big thing" that helps to improve the mobile user experience.
mj @ Jan 4th 2007 9:55PM
I'm in! Hey, can I prepay for this sucker and pick it up on the 8th??! :-\
Southin @ Jan 4th 2007 11:42PM
Does anyone know if Cingular or Palm will sell an unlock version of the Treo 750? My 2 year contract expired and I do not wish to purchase a lock Treo especially if I travel overseas. I want to walk into a shop and by a SIM card and install it.
tnkgrl @ Jan 5th 2007 1:18AM
Yawn :)
Bruce @ Jan 5th 2007 3:38AM
I was inches away of bowing to the blackberry pressure waiting for the 750 to come out. I've had my 650 for almost 2 years now and will be getting the 750 on day one.
Key Points:
Love the touch screen!
Love the Palm additions (threaded chat, dial by picture)
Waiting to see what 3G is like on the phone.
Key Question:
Why do you want wifi on a phone? If 3G isn't a bad enough drain on the battery, wouldn't wifi be worse? If you really want / need something with wifi, go get a $499 dell laptop.
Additionally, I love this site! Where else can you find people more educated than those who work for the wireless companies
Jaime Torres @ Jan 5th 2007 8:37AM
I am in Costa Rica Central America, would I be able to use this beaty in my country. the network here is GSM regular. Please confirm
Thanks,

d-a-n-e-L @ Jan 5th 2007 11:13AM
Anyone know why it has a screen with only 240x240 res when the 650 has 320x320 res?
Kevin @ Jan 5th 2007 1:52PM
Well this certainly looks like a promising item, but the price is a detractor for sure. Being a PalmOS fan I have to wonder if they'll release one with PalmOS support instead of WM5.
The other thing that annoys me anymore are these phones supposedly for business folk that all have cameras. Outside of BlackBerry it is hard to find one without a camera anymore. For those of us who venture into many manufacturing facilities, this is a major drawback.
I really couldn't care less if the phone has a camera. In fact I would like it more if it didn't.
K.
Romik @ Jan 5th 2007 2:41PM
Seems that 750 will have voice dialing via bluetooth, is that correct? Does 680 have the same? If not, are there any palm OS applications that will take care of it? Thanks
US Federal Government/DOD Employee @ Jan 5th 2007 4:30PM
For some it seems that you haven't been following this phone during it's time in the European arena. Here is a link to the *.PDF data sheet from Palms UK site. http://euro.palm.com/uk/en/products/treo750v/docs/treo750v_datasheet_en.pdf
As for those who believe that the phone is not worth it...surely you've never received a msg from a friend who was logged into yahoo... they request a file they know you keep on your phone (like me)... yet they want it sent to there email account and to there phone as well as via yahoo... this is the ADVANTAGE of threaded chat... you hit reply, add in there phone number and email... they get the attachment via yahoo, also no there phone as an MMS and in their inbox as an email from your phone. In WM5 without the Palm enhancements, that would take three separate msg and you'd have to track them via three separate applications, not in one thread... which oh by the way is under your friends contact name and flows like a chat and identifies each method in which you contacted/responded to them. I'm owed the HP6515 the Cingular/HTC 8125 (current phone) the Blackberry Pearl and the Treo(s) 600 and 650 and I've been waiting for this 750 since it was announced... as for the camera in secure spaces... a piece of copper over the camera is good enough, if not you're probably doing something wrong in allowing that phone user in a secure area anyway...:) Bottom line if you are a person like me who has two batteries for his laptop, keeps the GSP (hp5900rx) constantly charged and linked to my cell phone via Bluetooth for weather and traffic up dates and listen to Sat radio vice FM/AM... the price is not even on the radar of being high... Especially when folks are paying over $500 to play video games I the comfort of the living room (PS3)...another thread for another time....just my two cents.

Had to put my name in for "a 24 hr hold". Tried to prepay or put a deposit...no way...
Guess the 8th is gonna be the date to purchase.
ek @ Jan 6th 2007 5:49PM
@ #33: From what I understand, the lower resolution on the 750 is a limitation in the resolution of square screens under WM5.
