Keepin' it real fake, part XXXVII: Apple iPhone
It seems like mock-ups come by the boatload, especially when it comes to the iPhone. Staying with our KIRF tradition, we bring you the simulated iPhone. This little gem popped up a few days ago on IPart.com's website and amazingly enough, they even label it as a copy. C'mon now, like you didn't know that it was fake? Judging by the pictures, it looks to be the same size as the current Nano, only a little bit thicker. Thankfully, they included a touch screen, handwriting recognition, and a 2 megapixel camera. If anyone decides to pick this up, drop us a line and let us know what you think of it.[Thanks, Jason S.]

with what looks like microSD expansion it could be a 2 gb mp3 player that one ups the ipod by having a removable battery (and camera and phone I guess)

While this will certainly have its fun factor, talking on a white "Ipod nano", good luck expecting much from a quick knock-off from china
have to admit though, certainly bugged my eyes out a bit ;)

Seriously considering buying one just to satisfy my curiosity.

I think this could be a proof of concept of some sort, yet if it's being mass-produced, Apple could face imitators on the phone market at a similar ratio than in the current mp3/4 "iPod" space.
I guess Apple should bring a highly innovative design if it's up to bring yet another phone to a uber-saturated market. I personally feel rather reluctant to the inclusion of the click-wheel (which of course they'll include, since it's part of the brand), unless they make some size reduction. Frankly, I'm right now looking forward to the ZunePhone, since they mp3 player looks more akin to phone behaviour, and M$ has got game on the mobile market already.

This is an iPod Nano-imitation, with 1 GB flashRAM built-in. I live in Turkey, and I saw it as late as yesterday, at our local bookshop-cum-drugstore. They also had a (less elegant) iPod Video... capacity unknown. If anyone is interested, mail me at engpjp at gmail dot com and I will go and take a couple of snapshots.

Well, the most interesting aspect seems to be the fact that it's quad-band GSM, making it truly a world phone. The shots on the website are actually quite good, I'm wondering, how's the UI, and does it actually work??

The phone has free inbuilt memory of about 1.1mb, there is a micro-sd card of 128mb provided in the box. The quality of the stereo handsfree is below average. The screen is very good, much better than the one on the sony-ericsson z530. Due to its small size the images look better than that on motorola mpx200. The reception of the phone is below average, but still better than that of sony-ericsson t300. In-coming audio quality is nice on the phone ear-piece. On the provided handsfree the volume is low. the party on the other end complained at times that my voice on this phone was breaking at times. the ui is responsive. the grouping of the menus takes some time to get used to. the lists can be scrolled by the rocker key, touchscreen, next/prev buttons on the round dial and also by moving the finger on the dial. the cable comes in the box. the device acts as a mass storage device when connected to pc with the cable, no drivers needed. i can access the memory card like this, but the phone memory is not accessible. also so far i could find a way to transfer files from the phone to memory card. the mp3 player can be minimised. on in-coming call the mp3 player pauses and then resumes from the point where it stopped after the call is over. in this aspect mp3 player is much better than the windows media player on the windows 2003/se phones. the phone is very light. the 2megapixel camera seems to be slightly better than the one i-mate jamin. but in low light it is bad. nokia 3230 performs better in low light than this one. i could not find macro-mode on the camera.

Mine arrived yesterday! Not as bad as I expected. Looks OK, but a bit 'fake'.
Can't get it to work, despite the GSM 900/1800 claims.I'm going to drop in to my provider today to see if they can work it out. The only real problem is that the manual is in chinese. Does anyone know where I can find one in english?
jim hill @ Jan 5th 2007 5:00PM
Just got back from my service provider. The 'phone is not quad band, but GSM 900/1800. Unfortunately my provider is GSM 1900, so I'm stuck with a funky looking calculator!
Anyone wanna buy a new 'phone?LOL
