What a better way to usher in the
Crossbow Age than with this hot little number from Samsung? Roc A Fella and HTC Kid have again hooked us up with some details on the CDMA rendition of its i760 Pocket PC phone, taking on a decidedly different appearance from its
GSM cousin by pushing the keypad to the right and the directional pad to the left. It looks like Verizon is all lined up to get this bad boy come Q2 of next year, packing a little next-gen Windows Mobile action in the process (though what we've seen so far suggests it ain't much more than a reskin). Specs (for those who can't be bothered to peep the image) include 128MB of ROM and 64MB of RAM, 802.11b / g, microSD expansion, and a sliding QWERTY keypad. Mix in just a touch of that glorious EV-DO broadband, and it looks like we've got yet another winner in Verizon's '07
bumper crop -- if Crossbow stays on schedule, that is.
[Thanks, htckid]

Sam's sliding keyboards suck to type on. and the top weight of the phone make it even more difficult. SAMMY Make the keyboard landscape layout.

I got this phone last friday. After normal stylus usage, a black dot appeared on the screen. The dot doesn't show up when it's off, only when it's on. Sadly, it's so new that no one knows what's what with it. I'd say to everyone else, let this phone be out for a month to see if it's too defective for the market.
brad @ Dec 22nd 2006 2:37PM
wow this looks like a sweet phone, common bring us info of the libra though
dang verizon is about to storm onto the pda/ppc phone scene
elgee02 @ Dec 22nd 2006 2:39PM
Oh wow VZW's PDA/Smartphone lineup just keeps getting better and better.
maximus @ Dec 22nd 2006 2:40PM
Is it my eyes or is there an actual number pad on the front? SWEEEET! BUT WHERE THE F IS THE LIBRA!
M @ Dec 22nd 2006 3:22PM
the fact that it has a front numeric keypad at all (much less pushed to the right) makes it different from its GSM cousin.
Fred Hyke @ Dec 22nd 2006 3:36PM
Of course it out-blackjacks the Blackjack; but you really can't compare, because it's Pocket PC vs. Smartphone. I'd personally rather operate one-handed and not have it bulge out of my pocket than use a Pocket PC-based phone. If that's how you're comparing, the 8525, also out-specs the Blackjack.
LG @ Dec 22nd 2006 6:04PM
@1. The landscape keyboards suck. You can't operate it 1 handed if it's that way, and who wants to keep switching positions? I can't stand the landscape keyboards, and I doubt many others really do.
@6. You CAN operate it right handed. I do with my Sammy i730 all the time. The portrait keyboard allows this.
And, CROSSBOW! I WILL buy this phone!
Chris @ Dec 22nd 2006 8:26PM
LG many people who text alot like landscape mode in their pocket pc/smart phone. I own a PPC-6700 and while I definitely respect the power of the i730, the form factor is the reason that I didn't buy it when I was about to sign with Verizon. This phone does look good though, I have to admit that. If it comes to Sprint and the keys are large enough for fast+accurate texting then I will consider buying it.
murph @ Dec 22nd 2006 11:05PM
as an i730 user, i'd like to say hello to my next phone.
bigtetto @ Dec 23rd 2006 7:36AM
Anyone else just a bit disappointed that it doesn't look like this : http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2006/10/11/samsungs-sgh-i760-super-slider/

I'm veru dissapointed it doesn't look like the SGH-i760 and isn't built with similar specs. The horizontal keyboard of the SCH-i760 kills it completely for me. I'm not going to be getting this SCH-i760 but rather, have found some people who also want and can get WM6 and or WM7, a camera, and SDHC support for the SCH-i730.
gw @ Dec 23rd 2006 7:30PM
I think the GSM version looks nicer. Although the dialpad is a good idea, having the wheel off to the side like that looks kind of weird IMO.
Vassar @ Jan 2nd 2007 1:20PM
WM5 stinks. I'll stick with my Palm-based Treo!
Dave @ Jan 7th 2007 12:20AM
Any further info on the i760? Is it still on track for Feb 07 release??
DJC @ Jan 9th 2007 12:04PM
The i760 is scheduled to launch on Verizon in Q2/07 (i.e. April to June), not 02/07 (February).
Hey Vassar...go ahead and stick with the Palm OS...I bet you still use OS/2 on your PC too. ;)
Bobby @ Jan 9th 2007 11:06PM
It looks like there are TWO different samsung i760s being released in the first half of 2007. The SGH-i760 is going to be a beefed up version of the i730. I believe the differences between the two is that the new version contains a camera, wifi, WM5 rather than 2003SE, and it gets rid of the stub antenna. As for the i760 in this review, it's named the SCH-i760 rather than SGH. This phone is going to run the new crossbow mobile OS and it has a landscape slide-to-hide keyboard unlike the i730 and audiovox 6600. It also has the 9 digit number pad for more conventional phone usage... Personally, I'd like to see the SGH-i760 with the vertical sliding keyboard without the 9-digit number bad come in the next-gen crossbow breed of smartphones.
Dominick @ May 28th 2007 6:47AM
I agree with you.
Dominick @ May 28th 2007 6:47AM
I agree with you.
ryan @ Jan 12th 2007 1:28AM
I am a little disappointed that the keyboard is landscape.....I love the fact that I can slide the keyboard down one handed and use it while my other hand is busy on my i730....I do love the numeric keys on the front so I can dial without the keyboard...and yes bigtetto I am disappointed it doesn't look like previously rumored versions..
Dominick @ May 28th 2007 6:46AM
I couldn't agree with you more. These companies don't listen to its consumers.
UsedJeans @ Jan 17th 2007 2:54AM
Does anyone know if the SGH-i760 is coming out for Verizon? I have seen everywhere that the SCH-i760 is coming out in quarter 2 of '07, but personally I prefer the SGH PDA touchscreen version over the SCH smartphone. So does anyone know for sure about the SGH-i760 and Verizon?
Jon Jon @ Jan 17th 2007 4:10AM
This phone is not coming to the US. This one is strictly for Rusia! You lose!
i760 Love @ Jan 19th 2007 11:18PM
I got to play with this new phone the other day (a test phone). This thing ROCKS!!! I love the landscape kb and the number pad on the front. The circular pointer with enter button in the middle works very well. For those of you who like the touch screen, this phone does have the touch screen. It also comes with a stylus that would be hard to loose stuck and collapsed in the right side below the hang up button. One thing to get used to is the pickup button on the left which causes the phone to start to slide out the kb on the left side. This is a minor detail and the phone is incredible. And yes this phone is definitely coming to Verizon, as the phone I tested had the Verizon logo on it.
Padman @ Jan 25th 2007 7:30PM
My 6600 is on it's last legs. I've had Samsung voice dial before and can't wait to get it again. I've found the slider on the 6600 useless and use the on screen keyboard almost all the time. I hope this keyboard is more useable. The keys on the front are nice, but I'd prefer a bigger display.
I'm sold. I'll wait, but I might go to a cheap flip before my 6600 drives me insane.
Blazeralb @ Jan 30th 2007 10:24PM
This phone looks nasty! I was just about to buy the SCH-i730 but good thing I held of. Does anyone know price points or even rumors of prices, or even what they think it might start at?? I am not tryin to drop 500$ like the iphone.
Dominick @ May 28th 2007 6:47AM
I'm thinking it'll be between 199-499 depending on the plan you get. If you look at the other new phones, my best bet is it will be more money than any others on the verizon wireless website.
Mikemars28 @ Jan 31st 2007 8:33AM
Does anyone know the release date of the SGH-1760, also if its going to be available in Thailand.
meezy @ Feb 20th 2007 1:52PM
everyone has probably seen this but check out this link to the picture if you havent seen what the verizon version will look like upfront...

i730/i830 users will love this new Samsung device.
It was featured at CES 2007 in the "Best Of" awards. I have used the first prototype of the i760 and I can't wait until launch date. (rumored June-July 2007 "if we are lucky")
Dominick @ May 28th 2007 6:47AM
How did you get a prelaunch prototype if I may ask? I wished they came out with the SGH-i760 with CDMA and US specs..
Chris P @ Jun 27th 2007 6:37AM
Is the i760 still on schedule to launch on Verizon in Q2/07 or is it true that it may not be offered in the US. Any new information??
Kellee @ Jul 11th 2007 11:14AM
At a recent Verizon event I went to the Samsung Rep and my Verizon rep both confirmed its launch for later this month! I cant wait to get my hands on it. I played around with it for sometime and i love everything about it!
asdflk @ Jul 13th 2007 3:06PM
do you live near new york? because i am also really interested in this phone and don't know if i should go to my nearest verizon wireless store to ask about it! thanks for the info.
Kellee @ Jul 13th 2007 4:26PM

thanks for all that information. but i clicked on that link and it did not work for me. do you think it is because i do not have an account on verizonwireless.com or is it because of my location?
Kellee @ Jul 17th 2007 6:50PM
NO! They took it off! It isnt working for me now either :-( I cant wait for this phone!!!! lol
asdflk @ Jul 21st 2007 5:59PM
hey kellee, have any more information on this product since the last time we've spoken?
John @ Jul 20th 2007 5:00PM
This is far and away the most exciting phone release to happen in the last two years. At least in the business market (overall iPhone is probably a bit more exciting). It is amazing to me how poorly it is marketed. Nobody know when it's coming, what price, what features, how the OS will look and feel (well we have somewhat of an idea since it's Windows Mobile 6). Anyhow, no wonder Apple is kicking everyone's hind end. They know how to market. How anti-climactic to take a Windows Mobile phone that looks to finally be done right and not even have a release date. Pitiful. Verizon needs to quick asking "Can you hear me now" and start saying something. People might listen.
Kellee @ Jul 22nd 2007 11:46AM
uuuuuuuugh! i am so excited and i just cant wait! So this is officiall named the "Robin" and I tried to get my rep to commit to a date but it still isnt on his release sheet. they put it on the site then took it off. im thinking they are gonna promote the crap out of it and quickly. its supposed to drop at the end of this month, and as far as i know it hasnt been pushed back. Next week woujld be great! the 28th is my bday! lol...i'll keep you posted. i will probably have a date on monday.
asdflk @ Jul 29th 2007 3:53PM
happy birthday kellee :]
i am so excited for this phone to come out too! are you sure your rep is giving you the correct dates? it seems like they keep on telling you a date, and its always being pulled back! for some reason, there is no advertising or anything for this phone! and now that they have named it the "robin", i am guessing that it will become even more popular and well-known by non gadget-obsessed people once it is released! haha thanks for all the information kellee, keep on checking everything for me!
Kellee @ Jul 29th 2007 6:18PM
oh! asdflk...by the way, thanks for the bday wishes! :-) what part of NY you in? I meant to ask before.
Kellee @ Jul 29th 2007 6:19PM
yea, that's the wireless industry for you. it was scheduled with july as the release date but it was pushed back. now i hear august 15th! and ofr some reason this is very hush hush...its killing me. i imagine that second week in august my "Robin" will be waiting on my doorstep with me acting giddy as a schoolgirl...haha, but thats the word for now. my rep said its being pushed back, no idea why. arrrrrrg, just give me my phone! lol
whitknee @ Aug 12th 2007 8:34PM
so does this have a touch screen? man, i just want to play with it!! Any word on when it comes out officially?? When i went in and asked the guy looked at me like i was crazy
Asif @ Aug 15th 2007 10:46AM
A Verizon store in Southern California had it, but they said they weren't allowed to show anyone yet.
Kellee @ Aug 16th 2007 6:17PM
Sooo, supposedly at the end of this month...haha, but WHO KNOWS! Verizon is SOOO tight lipped on this! All i know that at the end of this month this Robin will be mine!!!!!
asdflk @ Aug 17th 2007 3:46PM
hey again kellee...this phone keeps on getting pushed back!
i heard the 15th,and now you're saying the end of this month?
i am too anxious for this to come out,i am checking the verizon wireless website pretty much every day to see if it has been added!
Ellen @ Aug 30th 2007 9:36PM
I know this may sound really stupid, but I've been waiting for a decent Verizon PDA to come out for about 8 months now because I would like one and I have been able to get a new one at discount since that time. Therefore, I am not tied to contract. However, I hesitate to switch carriers because I use about a total of 2600 mins a month (due to friends and family across the country) and about 1500 of these minutes are IN minutes. All but maybe 3 of the people I talk to on a consistent basis are not Verizon customers. That said, I see that there are three semi-decent PDA's coming out on the Verizon board during September and October. The Samsung i760, the UTStarcom XV6800, and the UTStarcom XV5800. Which is really the best choice? I mean, hell... I've waited this long. I want something that's great, not just decent at this point. I understand to get phenomenal, I may have to consider switching providers, but at this point, I need as much help as I can get. Across the board. Anyone able to give me some sound advice? On which to pick if I stick with Big Red and/or which PDA would be the best option if I chose to switch carriers? I'd really appreciate it.
phonegeek123 @ Aug 31st 2007 5:07PM
DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A RELEASE DATE FOR THE I760 ROBIN?????? I NEED A NEW SMARTPHONE AND AM HOLDING OUT FOR THIS ONE.
