Verizon UTStarcom SMT5800: Libra comes stateside in green?

We knew the UTStarcom SMT5800 was headed for the States, no doubt, but we didn't know Verizon was going to be picking it up in... nasty ass green. Seriously, what's the deal? Plus they took that hawt Hermes-style keyboard and gave it the MDA-style oval keys, not our idea of a nice changeup. Still, you'll have tetherable Rev A EV-DO, 128MB flash memory, 96MB RAM, microSD, Bluetooth 2.0, and a 2 megapixel camera. Big ups to Roc A Fella and HTC Kid on landing this, the third hot Verizon leak today.

Um, look at the pic. Screen shows PocketPC OS, not smartphone.

Well it looks like i'll be jumping ship to the htx 6800... it has WiFi. Verizon isn't getting $45 outta me for their data plan

Wow that is an ugly phone... I liked it alot more in the traditional gray color and when the keys weren't in mda style. My friend has an MDA and it is an ok device but I think my PPC-6700 has better keys. I agree with Xeper, the screen does show Windows Mobile 5 running so at least it should be a touchscreen...
But for now I am waiting for Sprint's version of the 6800...

Depending on your price plan VZW offer's voice/data bundles that give you unlimited data for much less than $45 a month.

This should be a great phone, too bad VZW always has to ruin things with their ugly finishing touches! The silver & black was much more hi-tech looking and the smooth keyboard in the original demo pictures looked a lot nicer than what is pictured above.

I agree with brad, where hell is the Wi-Fi?? What self respecting HTC phone would have a SLIDING KEYBOARD and not have Wi-Fi?? How many people actually live in area's that have (or will have) Rev A EVDO to take advantage of the broadband speeds??

I will give them credit for adding a front keypad. I owned an MDA for a bit and that is one thing I really missed.

In reguards to number 11 the rev a network is pretty large... trust me on that but in general... yeah the wifi point. But VZW doesn't make the devices only sells them. And yeah I liked the silver and grey covering better.

They really screwed this up with that keyboard. My big hope was the touchscreen, keep the numeric pad on the outside for ease of one-handed phone use, and keep the FANTASTIC UTC keyboard. Then they go and change one of the best keyboards ever to this crap. And to top it off...GREEN? How many buisiness people want a green phone! Very disappointing Verizon. Maybe Sprint will not blow it too.

What plan can you get unlimited data for under $45. That is my big complaint with VZW right now. I want a smartphone, 2 actually, but I can't add $90 a month to my bill. I have mobile web for $5 a month right now, but it used minutes. I have 1400 family plan minutes right now, what can I change to? I assume the options are the same as the Q would be right now, and I only see very expensive options for the Q.

HI ,
Even though i have ok range , good battery on my cell ...I am having following problems :

1 .I am not able receive phone calls ..All those u trying to call me r getting message that i am not reachable..But actually i have full range and battery

2. After a gap of @1/2 hrs betn 2 calls , the 2nd call has totally different setting . My ring setting get automatically changed ..No idea what for ..In that case i have to restart my Mobile

3. Some time i am not able to save any phone book entries.After restarting my mobile it works ..........

I am feedup with these problems .All my imp call r getting hanged up...Pl do it urgently ....

I feel sick-VZW why have you done this again,,,,green really? big promisses no delivery- I feel as green as the phone -win 5? no wifi? painful keyboard -and in a color that my 5 yr old son would choose. Is verizon really the best carrier? I see them those phones that have exactly what I need- and ranking 10 of 10 user ratings-but in other carriers store front-I feel so trapped ok I'll settle for the SCH i 760. and verizon,,,for now
