Turn your plain-vanilla Nokia N73 into a Music Edition
We've already cautioned Nseries owners against getting too worked up about Nokia's recent sidegrades upgrades in the form of the "Music Edition" devices -- after all, they're the same phones. They've just been painted black, had a couple accessories thrown into the boxes, and had a new firmware revision installed. Ah, the new firmware: wouldn't it be snazzy if there was a way to get those new 1's and 0's onto your legacy N73? Thanks to a member of All About Symbian's forums, it looks like there is (though we suspect it won't paint your device black). It turns out that a simple change of the phone's product code is apparently enough to fool Nokia's Software Update app into thinking you're using a Music Edition, though we haven't tried it ourselves and we'd obviously exercise extreme caution when engaging in this kind of tomfoolery. Let us know how it goes, brave N73 owners!

R Suresh, you might be right about not being able to switch back from an N73ME to a plain vanilla N73, but something about trying the colour of this phone tells me not many people will want to "go back."
I hope that's the case, anyway, because I switched -- and I did manage to go from a Filipino N73, to a Euro Zone1 N73, to a Japanese N73ME, and finally to a Euro Zone1 N73ME.
I may be incompetent, but at least I'm lucky

Hey. Yes you can flash your N73 with the ME edition firmware. Except for the fact that you can't flash the firmware. You have to have a dedicated interface box to do it. For most of us, that means taking your phone to a competent independent cell phone shop that specializes in GSM handsets. Or you can buy a flasher to do it, but that will itself run you a few hundred bucks at a minimum.
A word of caution, with all of the modern Nokia [strike]phones[/strike] multimedia computers, you can not downgrade the firmware. Trying to do so will brick your phone. Also, flashing is not rocket science, but it probably won't be done using OEM equipment...that means in practice that some percentage of phones get bricked anyway. Keep that minor risk in mind before you jump. And last but not least, it will void whatever warranty you had.
Jean-Francis, Ha. I didn't know that there was a Japan PPM for the N73ME. I'll have to look into getting that...thanks for the info.

It is possible. The reverse is also possible. You just have to us Phoenix(again on the allaboutsymbian forums). Tonight I am actually doing a similar thing to my N80: I am getting the Internet Edition firmware on it with Phoenix. I will let you guys know how this one worked. Keep your fingers crossed I do not brick my phone cause the usb cable is pretty loose.

I just did this today and remembered one thing I always found annoying as an American consumer - the volume limit placed on European products. So trying to beat it, I made my Nokia N73 an Israeli ME phone, and I think it worked. Anyone else try this? There are threads with product codes for a lot of different countries.

You can get Nokia N73 Music Edition firmware installed on a N73, but the reverse operation is not possible.Or you need the actual executable for doing that.
