Samsung's Ultra Messaging i600 gets official: "world's thinnest" 3G QWERTY Smartphone
Samsung just went and officially took the wraps off the i600 we already caught struttin' around Europe a few months ago. The WinMo 5.0 Smartphone picked up the Sammy "Ultra" branding as well as the angular QWERTY found on the i607 BlackJack and preferred by German Sprockets. However, unlike the Blackjack, the i600 packs in 802.11b/g WiFi and a second VGA cam up front. Fully packed, we're looking at GSM/EDGE UMTS/HSDPA, MS Push email, RSS reader, speakerphone, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR and A2DP stereo audio support, and 64MB RAM / 128MB ROM on-board memory with microSD expansion. More importantly, it's quad-band GSM contrary to earlier reports and measures in at a qualified, "world's thinnest" 11.8-mm (0.46-inches) / 99-grams (3.5-ounces) which is slimmer than Cingular's lesser Blackjack yet weighs the same. Super. Now the rub: although FCC approved, the Ultra Messaging i600 is only announced for Asia Pacific and Europe thus far -- sometime in Q1, 2007.[Via AVING]

I was just reading up on this puppy last night. It seemed much better than the BlackJack except for its lack of support for the 850MHz band. But now you say it supports 850, too?! Wow! I need one! And I need it now!

What 3g bands does it support?

does battery life suck as much as on the blackjack? 8 hours of standby! I talked for 20 mins all day and the batt lasted 8 hours!!!! I only watched 2 1:50 clips and did no web surfing!!

Ralphieboy,
Try shutting off the 3G. Are you also using push email with the Blackjack? I'm running push email and when I leave 3G on I get about 14 hours with the usage you described. I shut off 3G and get about 30 hours. If I wasn't using push email I'd expect 40-48. Dial *#1546792*# then option 3, then 5, select GSM. If you want to switch back follow the same steps and select Auto.

It's actually not thinner than the Blackjack -- they're the same in that regard. I have a Cingular Blackjack box in front of me that shows the exact same thickness -- 11.8 mm.
