Danger designing dual slider for Helio?
Before anyone does anything rash like bust open the piggy bank in preparation for the Helio Drift, wait just a minute and listen up. Word on the street is that an even hotter phone is around the corner for the scrappy, MySpace-friendly MVNO. Details are sketchy at best, but the rumor goes something like this: Pantech and Danger (yeah, the Sidekick folks) have hooked up to design a dual-slide handset -- think LG SH100, but with QWERTY in one direction and numeric in the other. For the record, it's worth noting that Helio's VP of "Experience Design" Matias Duarte previously served as Danger's director of design, so it's possible that Duarte either called on his former employer to hook him up, or more controversially, that the new design is simply Danger-like in appearance and function. We've heard the terms "sleek," "rounded," "rectangular," and "black" thrown around to describe the device, which should pack 150MB of internal storage, Bluetooth, and a 2 megapixel cam. If we just threw a wet blanket on your desire for the Drift, we're sorry. Not really, though.[Thanks, anonymous tipster]
Update: Judging from Helio's recent trademark filings, this could be the "Mighty." Also looks like there will be a silver or white version of the Drift, aptly named the "Snow Drift."

Thats what I have been waiting for once my contracts up
I can say Hello to my new Service Provider though i badly need 3G service. I live next to Binghamton University which is a Top 10 University and you think that would get us some 3G.

Binghamton is a future site of EV-DO for Verizon Wireless.

Awesome! do you know when and where you find this info out? are you from around here?
Steve @ Nov 3rd 2006 3:26PM
I work for the company, so it's easy for me to find. You can go to vzw.com, click "View Verizon Wireless Coverage Area at the bottom under Learn More. Type in your city & state or zip code, select BroadbandAccess & V-Cast. It will pull up current and future Broadband areas for you.
As far as when it will be turned up, that always depends on testing. If you know someone with a broadband capable device (Most of the new VZW phones are), they can try to get onto V-Cast Music. Doesn't require any feature, but it only works in Broadband areas. Once you can get on there, broadband has arrived.

I Was talking about this on engadget-mobile (or was is here? hmmmm..) that Helio need to make a kb'ed phone, if their big thing is myspace - a typing insane website.

Helio is starting to look more attractive to me...but unfortunately I'm still stuck in a cingular contract. oh well.
p.s. U.S. News & World Report ranks Binghamton as 86 among nat'l universities. Which is not bad at all.

Well not that i know anything or anything, but i have a huge feeling that they are gonna piggyback off the kickflips sweet design with a bigger version of it that swings out like a sidekick. Just baseing this on the tipster tht says its ronded but rectangular hmmmm........IMAGINE.personally i cant wait for my drift and who know if this qwerty is all im thinking it gonna be cracked up to be i might just update again.

I've seen pictures of this myth you speak of, the only thing wrong is that it doesn't have a nice sleek design like those of the drift [i of course already own one], the hero [that my sister owns] and the kickflip, which i tested before i dropped funds on the drift. If you're thinkin oh it's gotta be good b'cuz helio's designs are good, it's not, unless the picture i saw was a protype in which that case i'm hopeful, i started out addicted to myspace, now here i am addicted to my phone! :) such a gadget nerd i am.

I don't know how old this post is, but wanted you all to know that Helio is on Sprint PCS network. I have the Helio Ocean and it sucks. I get dropped calls even with 4 bars of signal. The phone service is just bad, and I'm right here in Kansas City. Sprints own back yard and I have dropped calls every day. I would not recomend this service to anyone. Also Helio support is in Peurto Rico, good luck with any customer support.
