Cingular's Nokia N75 gets FCC approval
Those among us impatiently waiting for the Nokia N75, Cingular's S60 3rd Edition clamshell with UMTS, might bide their time perusing the just-published docs over at the FCC's site. Among the goodies are internal photos (which should hopefully prevent an overly-curious buyer or two from tearing their newly-purchased phones apart) and external photos clearly showing the Cingular logo emblazoned across the back of the flip. Most importantly, though, a draft user's manual gives us all some desperately-needed reading material to hold us over for the few weeks until we can all march up to a Cingular kiosk and get the goods ourselves.
Update: The user's manuals (yes, there are two of them; it is a smartphone, after all) reveal that the N75 rocks support for purchasing music and music videos over the air. In fact, the music may come from multiple sources, as the phone has provisions for entering addresses and usernames for multiple "shops." Loudeye, anyone? [Thanks, Eric]

Personally I will be going for a 680 or the N75, but I don't when they
are coming out and my verizon contract expiration date looms closer
and closer.

I wonder if it's just the photo or if this thing's got a "soft touch" exterior.
My E70's already got a scratch or two on the hard, shiny plastic.
I always thought that feel was especially nice on the V550 (only positive quality, actually).

Am I the only person for whom the PopPort is probably a deal breaker. I went through countless hands-free earpieces on old Nokia handsets because the damned dongle connectors kept breaking. We are rapidly approaching 2007. How can Nokia still be producing handsets that require flimsy proprietary protruding dongles, instead of clean solid miniUSB ports and 3.5mm audio jacks? RIM is relatively new to the voice business and they got that right. The mp3 RAZRs have proprietary headphones that attach to the miniUSB hub, but at least a miniUSB connection is sturdy. With this N75 you have a very sleek looking handset with great features, but in order to listen via a wired headset, one will need to a attach a tumor-like, flimsy dongle that will protrude from the side. A bluetooth headset would eliminate that annoyance, but why couldn't they include a meager little 3.5mm audio jack? Is that too much to ask?

Jim: My experience is that the mini-USB "wears out" after time & becomes really lose & easy to pull out (so Motorola's earphones fall out easily).
Nokia's pop port is annoying, but my experience is that it doesn't become lose in time (same w/ Sony Ericsson's new plugs). It is bothersome that they have a charger & a pop port - one plug should be enough.

I agree wholeheartedly that the pop port sucks.. however you did mention its 2007..so why are you still using a wired headset? :) The only other thing the pop port is used for is the fm radio.. and if you need to use your phones radio then you deserve having to use the pop port.. :)

@4: I agree. Having used a Nokia 3300, I can testistify to the annoyance of the proprietary pop port.
Can anyone speak to the bluetooth capabilites of this phone?

Maybe b/c bluetooth stereo headphones suck? :-) Mid or high-end nokia or SE music playing phone plus quality 3.5mm earphones = leave the iPod at home. Same phone plus current Bluetooth earphones = don't bother listening to music.

Its not 2007...its still 2006
