Cingular launches 3G-enabled 8525, sort of
It's still forwarding us back to the old-skool 8125's product page at the moment, but a tipster has managed to coax Cingular's site into giving up the goods on the 8525 -- Buy Now link and all. We're guessing it has something to do with region or Premier account status, we're not sure, but the point is that a select few are able to place their orders for Cingular's first HSDPA smartphone as we speak. Breaking out the wallet might be hard to justify for folks in 2G areas coming from an 8125, but if speed and power are top priorities, lick your chops as you read the full specs (highlights include a 400MHz Samsung core, 2-megapixel cam, and that fabulous 3G radio) after the break.
[Thanks, John]
Update: Judging from commenters' experiences, it's sounding like there's some buffoonery going on behind the scenes over at Cingular HQ -- the phone may not be shipping to anyone yet after all. ok, so what's the price that's posted on this mystery page?
Brice @ Oct 31st 2006 2:36PM
So does this mean an 11/1 launch?? Maybe in stores by next Monday 11/6?
Dan @ Oct 31st 2006 2:48PM
Called business sales and they said it isn't out yet. Did a search for it on the site, and found this... looks like they originally planned for it to come out a long time ago?

I checked out the provided link. The "Buy Now" area has you enter your email address and press "Go". All this does is log you into Premier. It does not take you to a screen to purchase the phone. Darn, I got my hopes up there for a minute.

good find, dan, impressive :)

maybe this little bit of uproar is a sign the phone is going to launch in the next day or so. I almost bought the HP 6925 today until I read the activity on the HOFO site.

Dropped by a Dallas area Cingular store Monday night and they said that they will going to some sore of "kickoff" on today, Wednesday. After work a friend and I both dropped by 4 stores, all of which were closed, with one of the ones I went to having black sheets over some displays. Between the FCC approval of the N75 and the rumors of the 8525, we're left wondering if they are planning some sort of huge blowout tomorrow?...

Actually, i gave them a call to upgrade my phone and they told me that it wasn't available in my area (dc/metro) but it was available to other markets.
Paul @ Nov 2nd 2006 2:20PM
I called last night to upgrade and the telephone sales person, had no idea, but prompted me to "phonescoop"... as if we all don't know what that is... and she was really impressed with the 8525, yet still had no idea of its release date. Nor of the recent FCC approval of the N75.

The link is back up on the business side and linking to the screen for the 8525
http://business.cingular.com/businesscenter/8525/ but i called and talked to a rep and they said that Cingular's management was sent a photocopy of this page the other day and they didn't know where it came from. I showed it to him on his own website (which was a surprise to him) and he said based on the info they have it's probably 2 weeks away still. They just received a memo stating it was getting ready to be released but missing pricing still, and that usually indicates a 1-2 week lead time.

Went by a Cingular store today...the holiday display boxes had just been delivered...hopefully there's a spot for the 8525 on the display once they get it unpacked and put together.
I've been tracking this phone for I don't know how long and I am going to go crazy if it doesn't come out of the woodwork soon...especially since 3g is on in Oklahoma now (my market anyways)
KB @ Nov 4th 2006 3:15AM
so I went by another store tonight...they have pricing for the 8525 and told me they were instructed to get rid of all the 8125's that they could...the cingular rep I was talking to predicted it would launch sometime next week. Prices were 649.99 no contract, 599.99 1 year plus $50 mail in rebate and $499.99 2 yr plus $50 mail in rebate...oh the anticipation
DRB @ Nov 5th 2006 10:14AM
I called Cingular in Redmond, WA, and they are expecting the 8525 by Thanksgiving with pricing of $399 with $50 rebate. This the first time they have responded with any info so I am encouraged.
