Scientifically speaking, a lower frequency (such as 850 mhz) is more likely to be able to penetrate walls and improve indoor reception.

My apartment is a perfect example - 1900mhz only phones don't work there very well (usually end up on 850 analog in the case of a CDMA phone, and flat-out don't work on GSM).
