T-Mobile rolls out Nokia 6133
Ladies and gentlemen, step right up: your Nokia 6133 has now officially dropped on T-Mobile. The mid-range clamshell represents a solid step up from the 6103 below it in T-Mobile's lineup, rocking a 1.3-megapixel cam, Bluetooth, FM radio, quad-band GSM with EDGE, expansion via miniSD, and myFaves support sitting atop S40 3rd Edition. Factor in the $100 asking price after $100 "instant discount," and we suspect this thing should have no trouble finding its way into the hands of a few customers coming off contract.

OK here is how you make mp3s into ring tones. obviously a data cable is a big help. i assume you could blue tooth but my pc doesn't have it. either way connect the phone to you PC as Nokia Device. Then you have access to both the memory card (if you have one installed) and the phone memory through My Computer. Next you will need some mp3 editing software. Now this might sound like too much of a hassle but it is not. I used blazed media pro (http://www dot isohunt dot com/torrents/?ihq=blaze+media). Cut down just 15 - 30 seconds of the song that you want to use for the ring tone. Use a lower bit rate to keep the file size down to between 100 - 200 k then copy/paste into the Nokia 6133 / phone memory / gallery / tones / ringing tones . This has two benefits 1)you can put many more ring tones on your phone and 2)it will let your phone play your own MP3s.

If you got to www.makeownringtone.com you can adjust the size or pick the part of the song you want to use as a ringtone.. save it to your computer anywhere you choose. get the nokia phone software. convert that chosen part to a awb file.. put it on your phone. works PERFECTLY. I had tmobile unlock my phone. but that had no effect. that just takes off the sim card restriction.
Adrian @ Jun 15th 2008 2:58AM
I was able to fix the phone so it now runs third party applications and plays mp3 tones. Anyone still interested email me at adriankelly42@yahoo.com.

Is it true that there is an unlock code or a why to unlock the feature on the Nokia 6133 that prevents it from using mp3 files as ringtones? If so please don't hesitate to let me know. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Please help i need to unlock my t mobile nokia 6133 so i can use it with att .

I suggest you people read the first page. Hell, i suggest you people actually read any of the previous posts before asking the same questions over and over.
1st. Each unlock code is unique to your phone. No once can simply email you with a code or post a code on here.
2nd. Unlocking your phone will not fix the mp3 ringtone problem. You need to flash/upgrade your phone
3rd. a simple fix is to convert the mp3 to wma. to do this, send the file to your computer via bluetooth or stick your mem card into your computer. google for a free converter. convert the file and put it back on your phone using the same mthods in reverse
4th. if you still want to unlock your phone. CALL TMOBILE. they will give you the code FOR FREE. I have heard that you need to be a customer for over a year, however.

Does anyone else have a problem with this phone where when you call someone they tell you your voice sounds muffled sometimes? It doesn't happen to me everytime I call someone, just sometimes. I had one phone and it kept happening, so I called T-Mobile and they did an exchange, and now the same problem happens with this one. Its just annoying. Thanks

You don't have to unlock your Nokia 6133 to play back personally made ring tones! That's right; T-mobile left this option out so that you have to buy ring tones from them. Here is how you do it; first you need to get you a free Audio converter like Total Video Converter and convert your MP3 or AAC files to WMV; that's right the Nokia 6133 phone will only let you use WMV and Midi files as third party ring tones. The phone blocks out MP3 and third party AAC files from being used as ring tones, only AAC ring tone files that you download from there sites will work. Hope this helps, questions & comments; email me at djsoss@att.net.
Samuel Herrera @ Nov 10th 2008 10:41AM
Oops; did I say WMV? I meant WMA or the windows media files, sorry for the type-o.

ok so i have the same phone but i never used any cord or anything like that, i bought a 2 gig card and an adapter that the mini card fits into. i downloaded my p3s from frost wire and warez but you can use any p2p program. after downloading go to www.cnet.com or www.downloads.com and search for monkey media which someone had spoken of on page one!. after bringing the files up and saving them onto your portable card, place them into the media monkey play list by just drag drop, go to the playlist and select all the files in it , now go to tools at the top, click convert audio files, change the mp3 to wma, let it convert put your card back in your phone and you now have fully functional ring tones, ring back tones, ect. to do this on the phone just go to your memory card and where you saved them some pones they have to be saved in teh music folder to work, either way go into the song you want, hit options set as, and them ring tone, ring back, ect. this works wonders for me hope it does for you too! oh and for the ring back tones allow some time for them to activate

So has anyone gotten one of these yet? I have a 6131 and a 6126 (these are basicly the same as the 6133), and both of them take microSD for memory expansion. The 6133 on all of the sites (including tmobile.com and nokiausa.com) all say that this takes miniSD. Does anyone but me think that this is a typo?
Markb2008 @ Jun 18th 2009 12:22PM

Jordan @ Oct 26th 2006 1:13PM
WOW, I have this phone, and it is amazing.
About Mike Griff's comment though -
I just tried to set an mp3 ringtone, and he's right, it is locked. I didn't know that until he said that.
Luckily I don't usually use that feature, but I'm a little ticked off that I just switched from Verizon only to find out that T-Mobile is pulling the same crap.

I just got this today... I love this phone. Its true that you can't use mp3's as ringtones but there is a somewhat simple fix. If you convert those mp3's to WMA files, they play fine as ringtones...

I'm a T-Mobile Emp, just switched from the Motorola v360 to this phone. The v360 worked beautifully for over a year and was just starting to wear out. So far after a week of use I've no complaints about the 6133--MP3 ringtones would be nice, but converting to AAC/WMA is nothing too rough. It's also true that the camera is terrible at night, which may be a bit of a deal-breaker for some but I've always considered it *optional*.
I think my bottom line is that this device handles media files wonderfully--including streaming them to the bluetooth headset--handles mobile web browsing extremely well for a basic handset, and is quick to power on and load from the Transflash MiniSD and SIM Card. There are missing tweaks, true, but overall I'm impressed.
Justine @ Nov 15th 2006 12:11PM
Hey. on the Nokia 6133 does anyone know the unlock code to where you can be able to use MP3's as ringtones?!? I had a ton on mp3's on my razr that i used as ringtones and i sent them to my nokia and i'm pissed that it wont work. someone help before i scream.
adrian @ Nov 21st 2006 5:19PM
One solution for the MP3 ringtone problem, is to convert them to WMA files. Yes, its a hassle, but atleast tmobile doesn't put an ugly GUI. (yes, I know its a nokia).
I just got this phone free from tmobile after I signed a new contract and a new number, and it blows my Motorola v635 away in terms of camera quality, GUI, and simplicity. I don't think I'll ever go back to Motorola.

how do I convert Mp3 format to WMA?? please help. I'm soo peeved off that the user's manual said it supports mp3 ringtone but turned out to the totoally opposite.
SylverC @ Dec 17th 2006 2:51AM
download mediamonkey (free) from cnet.com to convert mp3 files to WMA. enjoy! I agree w/everyone, not being able to use MP3 files directly for ringtones is obnoxious!
Claudio @ Dec 20th 2006 1:29AM
another easy route to use .mp3 ring tones is to convert them to .amr format. If you have the Nokia PC suite installed use the Nokia Multimedia Player to open the .mp3 then "save as" .amr The .amr files will play as ring tones in the 6133.
Robzito @ Dec 24th 2006 5:54PM
in order for you guys to use your own ringtones on this phone your going to have to save the ringtones to your micro card also make sure that instead of mp3 files they are wma files and they are encoded at 44, this should solve your problems... peace
Brad @ Dec 28th 2006 6:35AM
In order to play MP#'s as a ring tone, you must unlock the phone. Thankfully, T-Mobile is very friendly in supplying unlock codes.
Just call T-Mobile, go through the automated menu, and when you speak to a customer representative, just say you wish to obtain the unlock code for the phone. They are very friendly about it. They just need you to verify your account information, then they will ask for your serial number and email address. Within 72 hours, they will email you the unlock code and instructions.
As for the reason the feature is locked at the time of purchase was due to severe pressure from the RIAA. Regardless, T-Mobile will happily obtain the unlock code for you. It just takes a couple of days because they have to obtain it from the manufacturer of the cell phone.
zeze_74 @ Sep 1st 2007 2:57PM
hi, sorry to say that you are kind of mistaken,
first: mp3 can't be used as ringtone even if you unlock the phone.the only way to make it happen is to FLASH/UPGRADE your phone :)
second: t-mobile unlock your phone ONLY if you're over a year customer !!

Michael B @ Sep 7th 2007 12:07PM
When you went through unlocking procedure with T-mobile, did it specify that you must INSERT NON-TMobile SIM CARD IN THE PHONE FIRST ????
Is there way to bypass that idiotic requirement ???
Where on earth will i get another non t-mobile SIM card just to unlock the phone ???
And speaking on the whole issue - technical challenges aside - WHY ON EARTH FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DOES NOT BAN PHONE LOCKING PRACTICE ??? I am sure it is illegal from anti-monoply laws point of view !!! Nobody ever does it in Europe ! Why put consumers in such hussle ? We are already forced to sign 1 or 2-years lock contracts to get ducking discounts on the phone which is obsolete in 6 mo ! Is it just because nobody in consumers protection agencies ever brought a law-suite or brought up an issue ???

I've tried switching the mp3's to WMA and to AAC both, and neither format allows me to use it as a ringtone. Is there a step somewhere that I'm missing?
xxxol @ Feb 10th 2007 11:50AM
I cant figure out how to use the FM radio, through the blue tooth headset. It always says to connect an inhancement device, meaning it wants the wired head set to be plugged in. You can use the media player and Music (mp3) player through the blue tooth, Why would you not be able to enjoy FM radio that way aswell?
anyone?
Alan @ Oct 15th 2007 3:47PM
Simply put,
The wired headset is also the FM antenna. The one in the phone is not the right type of antenna to get good FM or AM signals.
JB @ Feb 11th 2007 1:14PM
xxxol: The antenna for the radio is fed in over the wired headset. If you have a dead one, you can cut off the cord and just keep it plugged in. Not the best reception, but it's something. A bit annoying, but workable.
Re: MP3 Ringtones: phonesherpa.com can make workable ones for you... I don't actually know what the magic is, though.

Just got this phone from my mom (T-mobile), I think this phone is cool but no one here in the philippines knows how to unlock it (to use for local network). Maybe somebody (readers) might be able to help me. Thanks.
Jeepguy @ Mar 15th 2007 11:20AM
Hey all. I tried converting the MP3 to a WMA...and I assumed "44" mean 44,000 hz or whatever. But nothing seemed to work. So I converted them to WAV files...and viola. Worked perfectly. There is a free program you can get from cnet.com its called the "audacity player". Its small, simple, and you should be able to crop your sound file...since you dont listen to the whole song during a ringing session, you can reduce its size, or only play a certain part. The music player also plays the wav file without issue... Just another solution.
