I spent a few bucks on a couple of ring tones and wallpapers because, as the comments above reveal, the standard options are revolting. Virgin phones are firmly locked onto Virgin's network. And while certain GSM carriers can technically be circumvented by using unlocking software, With CDMA carriers, you're wholly dependent on the company to "release" your ESN to work with another carrier.

Your best bet would be to call Virgin USA and ask them to release your ESN so you can use your phone in a different country. They might. But they're not obligated to.

If you wish to take advantage of cheaper phone prices in the states, you are much better off buying Verizon phones. Most of them come unlocked. (The Verizon Inpulse ones don't -- you have to use their service for several months for them to release the ESN.)]]>May 24th 2008 7:44PM
