Smart S100: the slimphone with a silly keypad
There are slimmer phones on the market, sure, but the 7.7 millimeter, Asia-only Smart S100 has that poorly-faked-iPod look that Samsung simply doesn't have anywhere in their product lineup. With the exception of the unfortunate dual-band 900 / 1800 GSM radio with nothing more than GPRS to feed it data, the phone's specs aren't half bad, with a 160 x 128 OLED display, 2-megapixel cam, and that Nokia 3650-style circular keypad we all love (or love to hate). Without even a single US-friendly GSM band, we think we've probably spent too much time on this thing already, but it's fascinating to know that a no-name phone can beat virtually every major manufacturer in the slimphone game.

slow-ass GPRS, only dual band, super-thin, metal keypad?
sounds like someone made a cheap SLVR knockoff.

Kind of reminds me of the Nokia 3650 and this other mock up I made some time ago.

Another ripoff from somewhere?
kadajawi @ Oct 17th 2006 10:40AM
Well, somewhat of a rip off, but the bigger companies do similar things too, so no problem there for me. There are still quite a few differences from the iPod, like the materials.

I purchased this phone off eBay a while ago, & I just want to inform any potential buyer that:
1. Getting GPRS to work with my provider is impossible with this phone. Why? -Well, you can only write 18 characters to the 'APN' setting of this phone. The APN of my provider consists of 19 characters. So before you purchase, make sure there's less then 19 characters in your provider's 'APN'. Otherwise you will not be able to use GPRS at all.
2. You can only send/recieve MMS's that are smaller than 100Kb! So it means that even if you in fact COULD get GPRS to work, it won't really be of any use.
Just wanted to inform any potential buyers...
