Nokia to add WiMAX in 2008

A little under a year following its approval, it looks like we can finally say with some confidence that 802.16e -- better known as mobile WiMAX -- is picking up a good head of steam. Following Samsung's ringing endorsement back in June, Nokia has now committed to introducing handsets supporting the standard some time in 2008. True, 2008 seems like a ways off yet, but when we take a gander at 802.16e's impressive data rates, we're willing to have a little patience. Handsets won't be Nokia's first mobile WiMAX devices, though; look for their base stations in 2.5GHz and 3.5GHz flavors in late 2007 and early 2008, respectively.
