Samsung's SGH-i760 super slider
Oh yeah daddy, another full featured Windows Mobile phone for ya in that unmistakable black boxiness only Samsung can (unfortunately) deliver. This unannounced SGH-i760 takes an SGH-i600 engine, halves the shell to create a QWERTY slider, and then drops in a 240x320 touchscreen for getting your PocketPC on. The result: a UMTS/HSDPA and tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE powerhouse sporting a 520MHz Intel processor, 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, microSD expansion, and a front-facing video cam with another 2 megapixel shooter 'round back all bundled up and spat out in a 115~154 × 57 × 19-mm / 119-gram slab of super slider action. No word on pricing or release yet, just more pics after the break.

Can you verify that Sprint will get a CDMA version of the SGH i760 or at least a US version NOT the SCH-i760 with that yucky horizontal keyboard? I talked with some level 2 techs at Samsung and they and their supervisors all seemed to agree that there will be a US version of the SGH-i760 coming to the US. IF THATS SO I would change providers to get the phone I think or perhaps if I have money get a second line. That would be sweet to be able to use that phone here in the states without problems!
Kyle @ Oct 11th 2006 11:23AM
hoyl crap that phone is sweet. i wonder what gsm freq it is missing. prolly USA no doubt.
Jay84Virgo @ Oct 11th 2006 11:31AM
THIS PHONE IS NOT COMING TO THE US ANYTIME SOON! So you guys can stop dreaming. Implemented tri-band handsets are INTERNATIONAL. Also, how the freak would a handset with UMTS/HSDPA support be on its way to Sprint? Newsflash....Sprint has a CDMA network.... rookies.
xman @ Oct 11th 2006 11:58AM
Of course this phone can come to the US. Tri-band is usually 1900, 1800 and 900 frequencies, so the 850 is left off, which is only used here in the US. But the 1900 band is a frequency that is used here in the US by both Cingular and T-Mobile. So who's the rookie now?
strider_mt2k @ Oct 11th 2006 12:02PM
Dreaming stopped. :(
It IS a nice looker though.
sdeetz @ Oct 11th 2006 12:54PM
You guys that think this phone is coming to Sprint are thinking of the SGH-i830. http://www.windowsmobileunderground.com/?p=5
The i830 is a CDMA phone that also has a SIM card slot and support for international GSM bands. It looks very similar and has most of the same specs, but it lacks UMTS/HSDPA and has no WiFi.
Henry Khachatryan @ Oct 11th 2006 1:11PM
Nastyy looking phone, the 600 too, when is Cingular (or any gsm carrier for that matter) going to get these slick samsung handhelds??
Martin @ Oct 11th 2006 1:24PM
This is really good one. I am glad that Samsung added Bluetooth 2.0 and mainly wi-fi which wasn't so typical for phones of this brand. I can only say: Good one!
keiri @ Oct 11th 2006 1:37PM
Except that Cingular uses a mix of 850/1900 in certain areas and only 850 or 1900 in others.
So if you travel there's the chance you'll be without "service" if you go to a 1900MHz-serviced area.
Not to mention the bands used by this phone for HSDPA/UMTS will be 2100 which Cingular doesn't use - it uses, again, a mix of 850/1900 depending on the area.
So "rookies" or not...this phone isn't the best choice for use in the US hence it probably isn't coming to the US.
Shon @ Oct 11th 2006 3:30PM
i think this seems to be the best implementation of a full qwerty while keeping the screen size larger.. treo and Q are fugly, and those htc phones are like bricks.. sooo big. Finally a pretty sexy smart phone. now just let us have that sucker here in the states.
Shon @ Oct 11th 2006 3:32PM
tmobile howver uses 900 and 1800, of which most euro tribands have.. so whever t-mob decides to join the umts, this will work fine.
Fred @ Oct 11th 2006 4:40PM
Make the phone quad-band, ditch the keyboard to make it thinner, and I'll buy.
Scott Johnson @ Oct 11th 2006 5:03PM
This looks like it shares a lot of its shell/guts with the Sprint IP-830W, also known as the i830 to Samsung. The Sprint model looks like a really nice phone. My wife just insisted that I buy her one tonight. You guys are killing me!
David @ Oct 11th 2006 5:16PM
Like i said mock my words sprint ......
you owe me a drink give it 4 months lol
Allen @ Oct 11th 2006 6:09PM
Is there any chance that the SGH-i760 will have GPS? If so, I would be looking to buy this one.
sdeetz @ Oct 13th 2006 2:36PM
Shon, Tmobile only uses 900/1800 in Eurpoe. In the US Tmobile is forced to use either 850 or 1900 by the FCC (they actually use only 1900 in the US. Only Cingular uses the 850 & 1900 bands here). The FCC does not allow cellular communications on the 900/1800 bands in the US. Same goes for the UMTS bands. Europe uses 2100, but the FCC has not opened up that band in the US. So US carriers use 850 and 1900 UMTS bands.
So Tmobile US customer will have similar issues. It will actually work fine for voice calls on Tmobile because the three bands this phone supports are 900/1800/1900. It only lacks 850. So since Tmobile US uses all 1900 for voice, you're covered.
Cingular customers could use it in many areas too as about 1/2 of Cingular's network is 850 (much from the ATT purchase) and 1/2 is 1900. It just would not have quite the range a quad band phone would for Cingular.
The problem is data. If this phone only has 2100 band for UMTS (which most tri-band phones do) then data will only work on the super slow GPRS connection on the 1900 band. It must have 850/1900 UMTS for the high speed data on either Cingular or Tmobile.

Hey David,
Can you send me the link that you are talking about? The one that says that it is comming out for Sprint and it is listed with other phones to come out for Sprint. Because I just cancelled my service with them but I can still uncancel as long as I do it by Nov 8th. I would definitely keep Sprint if they offered me this phone for $300 (which prolly won't happen... lol) but oh well I still want it. My problem is that I am a gadget fan and I love to have the latest and greatest phones/smartphones/pdas that come out and Sprint only offers a measly $75 credit for 1 yr of having your phone and $150 for 2 yrs of having your phone. This is not enough for me! I want a better deal and I am a "free agent" right now and I wanna know if Sprint is going to step their game up or if I should just cave and get T-Mobile and use their ridiculously slow EDGE, and their Wi-Fi on the new Dash thats set to hit on Oct 25th. If anyone can help out with this problem I'm having please comment your suggestions because I'm a lil pissed about my situation.
Jay @ Nov 6th 2006 9:23PM
Besides the obvious reasons it wouldnt be on Sprint just look at the name. Because Samsung labels the phone by the technology they use. If you look at their website all the t-mobile and cingular phones are prefixed with SGH. Sprint phone are prefixed with SPH and Verizon is SCH.
brad @ Nov 15th 2006 9:51PM
not to rain on everyones parade, i know this may never be seeen, but this phone is comeing to verizon in febuary

The US SCH-i760 is a piece of crap. It has a horizontal keyboard, not that sweet i730ish vertical keyboard that I love and am used to with my beloved i730. WHY CANT THEY MAKE THE SGH-i760, with US compatible specs but made for CDMA so we can use it here??? WHAT IS THEIR PROBLEM! Does VERIZON AND SAMSUNG NOT SEE THAT ON PRATICALLY EVERY POST FOR THIS DEVICE USA CONSUMERS WANT THIS POCKET PC (NOT THE SCH-i760 crap they're making for us) FOR CDMA???
This phone above is practically perfect..it has a vertical keyboard for one handed use, two cameras one for pics the other for video conferencing, has the biggest screen, fastest processor still, the most memory in this type of phone edition pocket pc, has a good 2 mp camera another for webcam, and a great form factor being nice and thin!
The ONLY thing I don't like about it is it uses Micro SD Cards rather than regular SD Cards..If this was made for CDMA (even with or without SD Card format) I would get this in a heartbeat! But NO, VERIZON DOESN'T LISTEN TO IT'S CUSTOMER BASE BECAUSE THEIR FOCUS IS NOT ON CUSTOMER SERVICE, BUT ON MAKING SERVICE AVAILABLE. If they made this for CDMA with an version with cameras and another option without cameras, they could take not just consumers by storm, but also corporations/businesses by storm as well. Too bad that just makes too much sense right?
Joel Desilets @ Oct 5th 2007 3:38PM
I would purchase the iSGH-i760 with the vertical sliding keyboard for almost ANY price. I've enjoyed full one-handed operation of my i730 since July '04, in all applications including web browsing. This phone is slowly again and I'm starting to worry...
The SCH-i730 is a piece of crap..like the iPhone. Kids toys. If I wanted a horizontal keyboard, I'd buy a Sidekick.
I think every i730 business user would buy an i730/i830 or SGH-i760 styled phone with a 3.2" 640x480, 256 ram, BT 2.0, EVDO Rev-A phone, with or w/o a camera, for any price. Samsung sucks for not stepping up to the plate.
Dominick @ Dec 5th 2007 8:13AM
I found out that the SGH-i760 HAS been released (w ZERO advertisement and NO vendor..??) IN ENGLISH, and popularelect.com has gotten 5 of them in but had to sell immediately because of past orders. They put in an order to get more in stock but they won't be able to get any more until after Christmas. AT LEAST I know they are available and I think I will be getting myself one of these beauties hopefully soon! Who needs Verizon!:/ I'll settle for AT&T for this phone! Anyone who also wants to get one should probably consider preordering (they had at least 100 orders for it, a lot I think for a non franchise local store) at the website and or check their local GSM Cell Phone dealers to see if they have them already or can get them in.
Dominick @ Nov 2nd 2007 6:03AM
You can buy the SGH-i760 from popularelect.com at http://www.popularelect.com/product_info.php?products_id=465
IF or whenever they get them in. It would be cheaper to get them with a plan like with any Pocket PC. I called them and they said they HAD 25 pieces in stock BUT had to send them back because they came in FRENCH. They said they will start selling them if they can either find a place to reflash them in English or get them in English from the manufacturer. I'm going to try to call them soon and see if there's any word on them. This phone is sweet!
