Palm picks October 12 to announce new Treo
It looks like attendees of this week's DigitalLife conference in New York City (our own Paul and Peter included) will be treated to the announcement of a brand spankin' new Treo model. Well, "new" might be a strong term here -- the 680 is probably considered the odds-on favorite to get official, and we sort of already scooped that on account of Palm's own blunder -- but nevertheless, we know a diehard Palm OS fan or two that'd like nothing more than to hear Palm confirm that the 680 is real and shipping on Cingular post haste. Of course, they've always got the Cingular version of the 750 as a backup if they decide to keep the 680 under wraps for a while longer, but if they do decide to pass that off as the "new Treo" they're unveiling, our guys on the scene will have boos and rotten vegetables at the ready.

What' the difference between the 680 and 750?
Mike @ Oct 10th 2006 5:34PM
Treo 680 = Palm OS
Treo 750 = Windows Mobile 5

Either way, that no-antenna look is way sexy. I want two, please. :)

I hope they announce a 750 for Verizon cause my wife needs to upgrade from her 650.

I hope they don't come out with a Verizon or Sprint Treo because they need some new GSM Treo's first, Verizon alreadys has the 700 W & P and GSM users are only left with the 650.

4. I hope they announce a 750 for Verizon cause my wife needs to upgrade from her 650.
theres a 700w waiting for you, but no 750. thats why people should go with GSM/UMTS for better and up todate phones

Sprint needs to get a handle on this new Treo because they are alweays behind when it comes to new pda phones. Cingular is running circles around them with the PDA phones. Also when they do come out with something new it's always so high that you can't afford it for 6 months. They never offer their long time customers any kind of REAL DISCOUNTS. I understand why their customers go elsewhere for service. Sprint is always in last place when it comes to getting the new product out or dropping the price on new devises. This is probably why Cingular and Verizon always get first dibs on the new pda merchadise.
Sprint,
Please get rid of your marketing team and find new enthusiastic members to put the company over the top with new and affordable pda phones! DROP YOUR PRICES!

Avary - Have you actually paid attention to the past few releases? Sprint got the last two new Palm Treo's - the 700p and the 700wx. Cingular customers have still been stuck with the 650. Now it is Cingular's turn.
And oh, either change to Verizon or Cingular or threaten Sprint that you are going to and they will work with you. Or, just go buy Verizon and pay about 2-3x for their data plan each month. Sprint is just fine, IMO.
Avary Jones @ Oct 10th 2006 10:28PM
I agree that Sprint has a great price for the data part but they do not offer existing customers a good deal for upgrading nor do they work with you on discounting you as a good paying customer. I have been with Sprint for nearly 4 years and I have yet to get a good deal on the latest and greatest PDA.

I like the 750 look but do not want to pay new phone price when I already have an acount with Sprint.

I am personal waiting for the 750, I remeber it is suppose to have Wi-Fi,from the leaked documents.Hi Speed Data is nice, but too pricy for me for casual use. And I can use Wi-Fi at home,my classes,work,mall....

Actually, Verizon and Cingular often do get preferential treatment from phone manufacturers. But that is because they have more subscibers, meaning more potential buyers, meaning more units sold. It's simple economics. And as other people have pointed out, it's not as though Sprint is being ignored either. They get a nice enough slice of the pie.

Thank goodness it's a GSM phone. With all the CDMA phones, it's about time they released something GSM. Now, when is the 700 coming to GSM?
As an entry level Treo, this looks good. I love the variety of bold colors. I am leaning on the copper one. Hopefully this will appeal to the younger audience, which will boost its awareness.
They'd better come up with some MAJOR marketing campaign like some cool and hip TV commercials. Otherwise, all this effort can get wasted.
Now how about some standalones? Been way too long since the last standalone Palm was released. They can't alienate those standalone Palm diehards.
Hoping that this will turn Palm's fortunes around.

I have a 650 from cingular. I am looking for an upgrade to it such as the 700 (palm). I need much more internal memory. Is there a Treo coming out soon that will have 128 meg on board. Can someone give me an idea of what and when.
