HTC Herald unmasked
Try as they might, no HTC phone stays hidden for long, and it looks like the QWERTY-rific HTC Herald is the latest of their smartphones to fall prey to a rather convenient leak. As previously rumored, the Herald brings all that HTC Hermes spec love, but in a 17mm-thick form factor. According to hands-on action going on over at SoloPalmari, they're measuring 18mm of thickness, but minor quibbles aside, the phone does seem to be in possession of a 2 megapixel camera, 2.8-inch QVGA screen, miniSD slot, 64MB of RAM, 128MB of ROM and of course that lovable QWERTY keyboard in a notably thin form factor. Unfortunately, nothing much could be verified as far as radios go, such as WiFi and 3G data, but we'll keep our fingers crossed for the Hermes' full complement of 802.11b/g, UMTS and HSDPA. Keep reading for a couple more pics.

A numeric keypad on the frontside instead of those pda buttons would have been better according to me

So this is just the Hermes but thinner? I wonder if this is just going to be a sequel for the Apache since the Hermes is the sequel for the Wizard. It would be kinda wierd to come out with a successor for the Hermes already...

Hmm, I thought the Herald was going to be the Wizard but thinner? The mini-sd is a hint since the wizard has it but the Hermes has micro-sd. Also seems strange to release the Hermes and soon after that release a thinner version. I'm guessing if you want 3G you get think, if you want thin you get slowpoke Wizard.

Whoops, I meant "if you want 3G you get thick, ..."

Does Cingular do one year contracts? If so, I'd "upgrade" every year.

I bought this phone last month, dropping (literally)Cingular and my treo 650, after coming home from Iraq/Kuwait with an ugly bill (dont ask). I spent a week going thru the manual(its half and inch thick!)The bells and whistles on this phone work great:802.11b/g, push email, and yes it has
3G,Edge and they work to my liking. The only drawback is you can't link it to your car stereo like the Ipod, but everything else is gravy!
