8525 caught roaming on Cingular

The Cingy 8525 isn't really a well kept secret at this point, but as always, the nearer to release, the likelier we are to get some shots in from Roc A Fella. There isn't too much different on this well anticipated HSDPA handset than the current releases of the HTC TyTn, besides the front-facing camera going missing. Sorry guys, no video conferencing on this bad boy. Roc sez to look for this one in the next 30 or so days, and to keep an eye out for pricing and specs soon. Oh yeah, we've got another shot after the break.

I cant wait for this thing, Ive got an upgrade with Cingular thats burning a whole in my pocket. Come on already release the 8525 or i607!

I went to the Cingular store last night to look at the Nokia e62 and the 3125(Star Trek phone). The nokia was nice but had no camera, the 3125 didnt' impress me.
Anyways, I asked the salesman why Cingular has been lagging behind other cell providers in bringing out thier new phones. He said that they are waiting till November when thier 3G "comes out". Whatever that means. But he told me I should see alot of new stuff around November.

Yea, it's so hard to wait for this when there's a 8125 only minutes away from me...but i know it will be worth it...get a grip man

The phone is definitely a worthwhile upgrade from the 8125. I've had both, and the performance difference is like night and day.

do these phones support sync with Mac OSX? I really wanted to 8125, but my upgrade wasn't available at the time. By the time the 8525 hits store, I should be good to go. Plus I get the awesome 50% corporate discount on phones. I just really want a phone that will connect via WiFi and allow me to check my e-mail some websites etc., without having to subscribe to the whole Cingular Media package, or an internet plan.

NOT WORTH THE WAIT! So what, it supports 3G and has a faster processor... so do a bunch of other phones. And all the other Hermes have the 2nd video camera for video calling. Why would you want to waste money on a crippled phone? Cingular still doesn't get it. Stop limiting the capability of your devices and you will sell more.

Sell more? I don't think adding another crappy camera for the small amount of people that would use video calling anytime soon, gps, and many of the other things you'd want to brag about in your PDA that would retail for 600+ really limits cingular's sales in the grand scheme of things.
Having 3G, a faster processor, and wifi is good enough for a lot of the people who have never owned an 8125. It'll still be one of the better and capable PDA phones in the US.

You can sync fine to OSX using mark space Missing Sync. Or esle sync your mac and the 8125 via an exchange server.

#9 Before posting, I do hope you have experienced the video conferencing first hand. Why would you put an extra camera in front, that would be for conferencing, that sucks, and that noone would be using. That just adds another couple of $$$ for no reason. Putting it on, would cripple the device and when I say that I mean, you would have everyone and their mothers saying that the conferencing camera sucks. If testing goes right, it will be out end of October as I had stated, if not, early november.

I have the TyTN, on the Cingular network, and find it ho-hum to disappointing. I upgraded from a PalmOS Treo 600 on Sprint. Compared to the (relatively ancient) Treo 600, the TyTN is SLOW, hangs a lot requireing resets quite often, has the annoying microSD card (so the max you can add is 2GB at a time, making music + GPS maps hard to carry at the same time), has a proprietary headset connector which means you can't charge and use a wired headset at the same time (basically making a BT headset mandatory), and overall I find the OS much harder to use (more steps to get each task done; I mean why is it so damn hard to search my address book for an internal note reference????). I'm going to keep it and look for 3rd party add-ons to make it more usable, although probably even LESS stable, if that's possible. I wonder at least once a day though why I switched.

I can't wait for this thing either, I've got an upgrade coming up and my Treo is getting itchy to be sold on eBay to pay for the rest and maybe some accesories. For the Mac OS X and so on people out there there is a great program that makes any PPC phone compatible with our friend iSync. I don't remember what it is exactly called sorry guys, but the Geek at the Apple store will definetly know. It took me a while to figure out how it works but it worked great for my PPC stuff when i did have it.

um, crippled? maybe to some extent, but not near the beatdown that verizon gives to their phones. Also, even though it doesnt have the front camera, it's also going to be about 1/2 the price compared to the Tytn thats out right now for like $750. Lets not hate on Cingular for crippling phones. Instead lets hate on them for taking wayyyyy too long to release good phones ;).

I'm very interested in this phone, but I have never used Windows Mobile. How are the GPS options? What are the costs? If anyone knows I would love to find out. :)

I work for cingular and had a chance to play with the 8525 at a 3g luanch in my area. It is well worth the wait if you plan on useing cingulars all to bad ass 3g network thats launching in cities near you on a daily basis. As far as the push backs on the release dates I can't help anyone out there =D I want it as bad as you guys do..

I cann't wait to get rid of my 8125; its too slow; hangs up sevral times a day and I atlease soft reset 2-3 times a day; very annoying; I don't know why they have that sliding key board. How many use it???? Just adds to the bulk!! Instead they couyld upgrade the speaker phone quality; hopefully HTC P3600 would be better!! Waiting.........

Sprint as told by my neighbor corporate rep told me they are 4G if that's to be believed.
