Cingular (finally) adds Sony Ericsson W810i
We know this one's been in the oven for a while, but according to the good folks at HowardForums, Cingular's finally seen fit to release the Sony Ericsson W810i -- and just in time, if we do say so ourselves -- though availability seems to be initially limited to brick-and-mortar stores. As a refresher, the brightly-colored candybar does the Walkman thing in style, packing a 2-megapixel camera, that Memory Stick Duo slot we all love to hate, and the obligatory quad-band GSM radio with EDGE; better yet, its predecessors' joystick is mercifully replaced with a more usable d-pad. Just add A2DP and you've got yourselves a winner, guys.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Sony Ericsson already has phones with A2DP. See the K790, K800, W850, W950, etc. The W810 is nearly a year old. Can't blame it for not having A2DP.

It's about time. I've been waiting for this phone since it was announced to be release Q1 of this year. Glad it's finally getting a chance. With a 2 megapixel camera, solid mp3 player (for a cell), etc. it's still pretty competative for phone that was released this time last year.
Hopefully Cingular's not packing it with a 128MB card as rumored. I honestly can't believe with memory as cheap as it is right now that their bottom line will be all that different because of a half-gig memory card.

It will come with a 128MB memory stick...sorry to disappoint. At least that is what the box says.
ryan @ Oct 1st 2006 9:39PM
What is the largest pro duo that this phone can take? I heard it could take the new 4gb, is this true.

Brightly-colored? It's black.

Had my testing W810i for about 1.5 months now, this phone is great! Camera, MP3, FM Radio, and of course voice calling, everything you'd ever want on a candy-bar phone. Very nice software and really fast menu navigation, no complains at all. BTW, my phone came with a SanDisk 512MB memory :D
Gnomster @ Oct 1st 2006 11:33PM
Hey Ryan, I think it takes only MS Duo up to 2Gb only. Well...only, Is still pretty good. Just carry another 2gb stick on you wallet.Later.
sonofnone @ Oct 1st 2006 11:38PM
@4. According to Cnet's review of the phone it appears the w810 can indeed take the 4GB card.
As for the memory discrepancy it looks like people who imported the w810 received a 512MB Pro Duo memory card. W810's obtained through Cingular, however, are given a 128MB Pro Duo card. Evidently having the most bars doesn't equate to having the most memory. At least Cingular gets new phones on the market as fast as humanly possible - oh wait!

cool. just in time. my v3i was getting a little boring and the w810 will hold me out (hopefully) until the v3maxx or another similar quad band 3g phone is available.
Chris Ziegler @ Oct 1st 2006 11:58PM
camp - call it my amateur attempt at clever sarcasm. If you want to get technical about it, I suppose the 'W' button is brightly-colored, anyway!
Cheers,
Chris

For those worried about the card, apparently they're running a promo where you can get a 1gb card free (after MIR).

I have had the W810 for a while (From Rogers Wireless)it is an Excellent phone. Great camera, great MP3, great all around phone.
Rogers sells it with a 1GB memory card, if Cingular does indeed sell it with only 128MB that would just be ridiculous. What is the point of a Walkman phone with only 128MB?
Jonathan Worrel @ Oct 2nd 2006 2:57AM
Yes! Just in time before my contract expires in 10 days. I am definitely picking one up! Thank you Cingular!

I work for Cingular and we have the phones in already. I took a look at it today and it does come with a 128mb duo card. Look at the rest of the Cingular line up, the only other mp3 phones that come with any memory are the SLVR and the V3i. The other phones dont come with anything, like the CU500 and the d807. Now compare the price(2yr agreement) of all the listed phones and consider the features of the phone. the W810i will be the best bang for your buck. (consider memory included, also.)

I have had the phone since it was released. Just one major problem with it (for me at least). It does not work with Honda/Acura handsfree link. SE have screwed up their software over the last year or so and actually none of their phones work now, though my good old T610 works just fine :(
AK @ Oct 2nd 2006 10:50AM
I got this phone unlocked from Newegg about a month ago (using Cingular network). I can't stop playing with this thing, it's great. FYI- the 4GB pro duo works just fine =)
Did they saw what features the phone will come with??? I'm curious if they took any out from the unlocked version.
christine @ Oct 2nd 2006 12:12PM
I've had this phone for about 4 months now and I LOVE IT. Crystal clear sound, great camera and easy on the eyes UI. Mine came with a 512MB card! I'm actually a little bummed that Cingular will carry this phone... now everyone will have it :(
hesh @ Oct 2nd 2006 1:39PM
How's the earpiece volume on this phone? Somebody wrote a review of the phone on newegg and said the earpiece volume was horribly low.
OGHowie @ Oct 2nd 2006 3:08PM
Many people on the forums and also reviews online have talked about the low volume. It has not been fixed even with the new firmware.
hesh @ Oct 2nd 2006 8:57PM
I was at a local Cingular store this afternoon and they had just gotten them in. Pretty nice phone. The pricing was $290 plus $20 instant rebate and a $50 mail-in rebate, so you're looking at roughtly $220 with a 2-year contract.
Rusty @ Oct 2nd 2006 9:27PM
I've had mine (unlocked from compUplus.com) for about 2 months. GREAT phone. Can't really tell you anything about the "low volume", I use a plantronics 510 Bt headset 100% of the time. Mine came with the 512 meg
card also. I'm also curious to see what features Cingular removed/locked out.
Ypocaramel @ Oct 3rd 2006 12:33AM
Oh dear, that took them a while. Too bad they don't have the white one either - that would have been nice.
Jason @ Oct 12th 2006 8:27AM
I just got this phone two days ago to replace my S710a. I am SO happy to have a phone the size of my old T616 again. This phone packs in everything...it's fantastic. The only thing I can't seem to find is settings for my personal email. With my S710a, I was able to set up a profile for my personal email on my personal server. Now it looks like I'm limited to AOL, Yahoo or MSN if I want access to email (with Cingular software). Still love this thing
I Got IT! Nice @ Dec 11th 2006 4:09PM
