Nokia's N95 smartphone goes legit

We're still struggling with a spat of fainting fits across the Engadget HQ, but that Nokia N95 pre-release info leak last night wasn't no hearsay. Nokia just dropped their complete fanboy specsheet of a S60 phone in the Nokia N95 today, including a 5 megapixel camera, integrated GPS, 802.11g WiFi, HSDPA, microSD, 150MB of internal memory and pretty much any other spec you could ever care to have stuffed into your phone by a Finnish "multimedia computer" manufacturer. The 2.6-inch QVGA screen should provide plenty of room to partake in all this specification glory, and there's a full-on 3.5mm audio jack to enjoy your multimedia in a convenient manner. Of course, that 550 euro pricetag ($700 US) wasn't no joke neither, but luckily we have until Q1 '07 -- that's when they're busting this thing out in Europe -- to get all practiced up on our petty thievery. It's great phone but the price is too high. But when somebody wants something great he has to pay more money than usual.

I'd pay 700 for this, but it absolutely has to have 850mhz. In today's market I just can't understand why so many phones come out w/o it. Can that extra band really take up that much space/price point?

That should be free or at least very cheap on contract by the time mine is due for renewal next April. Almost certain to be replacing my poorly built, crash happy Wizard. Very nice indeed

TB: Yes it does. Although the HSPDA is 2100 mhz only, you can follow the "Read" link to the specs sheet and it has all four GSM bands listed.

Actually, that spec page is wrong. The N95 is indeed a quad band GSM (850/900/1800/1900) device.

I hate to say it... but this may very well be the ideal phone. It's got just enough function to go with the glitz and fun factor.

I like the idea of a QWERTY keyboard style smartphone, but this one may win out on style points. let's hope its performance is up to snuff especially as a phone first/ toy second.

This phone will not be subsidized so don't expect a discount or network contracts. You have to pay retail for this.

As with buying this, I'm pretty poised to buy it, but I'm letting my N93 get used for another couple months before I throw another pay check on another phone.
