LG's entry-level VX3450 now on Verizon Wireless
Verizon Wireless has announced that it is shipping the LG VX3450, an entry-level clamshell that replaces the VX3300. The low pricing -- $29.99 on a 2 year contract, or $79.99 on a 1 year contract -- reflects the phone's skeletal feature set (Verizon claims it's for people who "want to keep life simple"): for your money you get a basic blue flip-phone with an external antenna, a speakerphone, voice-activated dialing, an external mono-display, and wait for it... a custom ringtone composer! As you can probably tell, we're not too ecstatic about the VX3450, but as it's one of the cheapest handsets from Verizon Wireless you can probably expect to see a whole lot of them out and about from now on. So just consider this post as a friendly warning, m'kay?

I think you forgot to mention one of the 'features' that may move a few units off of the store shelves, it does NOT have a camera on it. More and more places that i am into and out of are starting to put restrictions on camera phones so this feature (or lack there-of) may help sell a few phones as well.

Internet offer has the phone as free. So I hope no one is dumb enough to actually pay for this thing.

This phone is perfect for senior citizens and adults who dont want complex phones w/ downloadable ringtones, email capability, broadbandconnect capability, camera phones, etc, yet has the reliablity and durability that the public has come to expect from LG. Sure, there are plenty of Verizon phones which are inexpensive (or even free) but I have yet to see a motorola phone which works without problems after 6 months, Nokia has zero track record on CDMA networks, and who wants to trust a no-name company developing an inexpensive phone. Verizon may talk a big talk about how ALL of their phones are put through rigerous testing, are the best of the best, etc, etc, etc - but if that was the case, they never would have released the Razr w/o major programming changes.

I agree with #3 about the fact that this phone is for senior citizens. It has all of the basic functionality that is required for regular use. It is comparable to many of the Nokias that are available that only do two things: send and recieve calls.
The major advantage to this phone is the fact that it is a flip style phone. Many people do not like to have the bar phones because it never quite feels like you are getting your voice to the microphone.
Another thing that it has going for it is that if you wanted to give your Elderly Mother a phone and put her on your plan, this thing won't be killing your pocket.
Overall I would say that as a Low End/Entry Level phone this thing gets the job done perfectly. And on top of all that, when you hold it at the right angle, it looks like a hippo head!
