Zenum's Opus Operis Pocket PC in November?
Don't shoot us -- we're just the messengers on this one, but an outfit going by the name "Zenum" is claiming that they'll be releasing their rather comely "Opus Operis" Pocket PC Phone Edition device come this November. If real (and we really have no basis to form an opinion one way or another on this), it's shaping up to be a hot handset, rocking a full keyboard, 128MB of ROM, 64MB of RAM, 802.11g, Bluetooth with A2DP, miniSD expansion, a 2-megapixel shooter, and a landscape-mounted QVGA display, all in an attractive, thin (looking) shell. Of course, with devices in this category, keyboard comfort is a huge factor, and we won't get a sense for that until this thing -- if this thing -- hits the streets. Sadly, the Opus Operis leaves both GSM 850 and EDGE out of the equation, so data-hungry users and Americans are probably best off looking elsewhere.

Best looking qwerty phone yet...but yes comfort typing is key.
ben @ Sep 18th 2006 6:38PM
2megapixel shooter but no camera lense shown on the rear view of the handset hmm...
Roopesh Sheth @ Sep 18th 2006 6:41PM
Why would they omit EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA? What's the point? Sadly, in this segment, it'll be DOA without full connectivity options.
PiTT @ Sep 18th 2006 7:01PM
November sounds right, i have confirmation from my source, that specs will be upgraded, expect Quad Band and 3G..and no one has mention where the camera lens is...can anyone guess? =)
T-Will @ Sep 18th 2006 7:13PM
Wow, looks very nice and high quality from the pics. Now sure how comfy that keyboard will be though.
Does anyone know the dimensions?
Brian C @ Sep 18th 2006 7:17PM
Comparing feature by feature, BenQ-Siemens P51 wins. P51 has built-in GPS and supports SDIO (rather than miniSD) which means greater expansion options. Unfortunately neither of them support 3G/UMTS. It's a shame.
aaron @ Sep 18th 2006 7:20PM
so is this thing coming to US or not?
PiTT @ Sep 18th 2006 7:35PM
it is coming to US, and there will be North American support for this device and all future devices. there has been no formal announcement yet.

The lense is under the silver band across the back. I'm guessing all the silver part slides down... Sweet, if I'm right and some dam fine design.
PEZ @ Sep 18th 2006 8:51PM
There is more than one version. Stupid asses!
AHAHAHAH. Yeah, dont wory about it.
Tony C @ Sep 18th 2006 9:11PM
Looks thin-ish in the first photo, but when you turn it around and look at it from the backside, you see that the designers purposefully included that silver band and curved the back half inwards to make it appear super slim in that first beauty shot.
Looks like a stylus silo in the lower left along the bottom, maybe an infrared port halfway up the side, and either the black or silver unmarked cover is a miniUSB port.
I see the camera button along the left side of the device. With its placement and the LCD, the lens would have to be facing the backside. But with no hints towards visible sliding parts, I'd guess maybe that skinny silver part across the top (that says "megapixel") pops up?

I presume you've been using the same World Map as Sony, because you seem to have forgotten that there's life outside of America.
This phone looks amazing and hopefully it is legitemate. As an Australian I will be purchasing this phone the second it comes out.
Sean @ Sep 18th 2006 11:09PM
...The Stylus comes out of the bottom? Wow, that wont last long. LONG LIVE THE Q. Who needs a touch screen when you have a click wheel? Nobody, thats who!!
Brian C @ Sep 18th 2006 11:52PM
Decipher at post 12...
Wouldn't you want fast download speed from 3G/UMTS/HSDPA? I thought this is quite a universally desirable feature, irrespective of where you are from.
Decipher @ Sep 19th 2006 12:58AM
@Brian C - Post #4
Yes, I'd absolutely love the feature, but I wouldn't conside a device DOA because they don't offer those features. With any luck the lack of these features will reduce the price of the phone, I mean, whats the point of paying for these features if you can not use them? I live in one of the larger regional cities in Australia, but unfortunately the 3G network in Australia doesn't have a large coverage. EVDO is available to me, but the cost is way too hight for anyone to justify.
A nice looking Pocket PC Phone that has WiFi suits me perfectly, and I doubt I'm alone on this.
Decipher @ Sep 19th 2006 1:01AM
Sorry for the errors in the above post. Should be target at #14 not #4. And I'm sure I don't need to point out the other spelling errors.

Pictures from the "Camera lens" are available on the website ;-) http://www.zenum.ch
Cheers

Interesting that their domain name is registered by the same company (FIMSI) as vipnblackdiamond.com (VIPN has registered vipn.ch on their own), and uses the same hosting company.
The community that might develop and market mobile phones in Switzerland can't be that big, so this could be a coincidence.
fyrestarrter @ Sep 19th 2006 2:00PM
Acutally I believe the lens is in that slot at the TOP of the Phone. I believe the lens slides up out of the housing. Hmm on second thought maybe that's the memory slot..UNLESS...the doofs put the memory slot INSIDE the back cover. DOH!!!
I do hope that if this is widely available ( I really don't care whether it will be released in the US or not I will still get it) that it has the 850 because if it does not THAT is a TRUE deal breaker here.
Fyrestarrter @ Sep 19th 2006 2:05PM
PLEASE PLEASE here us oh Zenum GOD's this is the sweetest looking pocket pc pda/phone I have seen in a WHILE. PLEASE just do us a favor and ADD 850 band to the unit before a worldwide release!!!! If we can get 3g as well that would be a plus but NOT a deal killer. Unforunately here in the US for us to get the best use out of it we need that 850. Oh and of course we all know the person who said the camera lens was on the back is indeed correct. DROOL....
mr. man @ Sep 19th 2006 4:38PM
This is obviously some designer's (or design student's) 3D mock-up of a phone design. Click the JG logo at the bottom. Everything in his portfolio is a fake (albeit very good looking) product.
Kudos on his design aesthetic, and on his ability to fool gadget fiends.
Emidio Sacramento @ Sep 20th 2006 11:11AM
We respect people that doesnt like the Opus design. We understand that people can "hate" WM5 devices, or to be "un happy" with the specification's. What we do not understand is why some people takes the time to write false allegation's about ZENUM company? If you have doubts about our products our our company, please contact us. In this way you will not look so stupid reading these posts in November... ZENUM Direction.
Ekim @ Sep 21st 2006 1:17AM
Zenum is a fictional company that acts as the design studio of Singaporian industrial designer Jaren Goh, who is also responsible for the awsome Black Diamond Sony Ericsson concept phone (a phone that I might add, is worth $300,000).
The design for the Opus is another one of his concepts, and there hasn't been any announcement of a release date (or a manufacturer for that matter) so I'm wondering where Chris is getting his November release info from.....
You can visit Jaren's website here:

Whoa... I'm still not sure if this is real or not, but I'm in love! This WILL be my next PPC phone if it comes out (at a "reasonable" price).
Mr. Diego @ Sep 29th 2006 12:11PM
Hey, this website supposedly has some more precise info about this device...
duffyb @ Mar 8th 2007 6:39PM
I'll wait for Apple to do it right.
Jacob Bentzen @ Jun 10th 2007 5:33AM
Where can i get that phone??
Red-Biff @ Oct 2nd 2007 1:09PM
Do you know which service provider the phone will be available on in the UK and when??
