T-Mobile quietly launches T619 and T629 from Samsung
The Trace has been getting the lion's share of the attention, but it turns out that the svelte candybar isn't the only new Samsung kid on T-Mobile's block this week: the T619 flip (separated-at-birth twin of Sprint's SPH-M500) and T629 slider have quietly started filtering into the hands of users, too. The unassuming, midrange handsets' spec sheets roughly mirror one another, packing 1.3-megapixel cams and Bluetooth. Either one can be yours for $150 on contract -- after all the rebates have worked their magic, that is.
[Thanks, Rob]
Update: Turns out the T619 clamshell goes out the door for more like $80 after rebates, making us wonder what justifies the difference in cost versus the T629; is a microSD slot and a slider form factor really worth an extra $70?
[Thanks, Rob]

I like how on the title for the t-509 on T-mobile's site it still says "thinnest phone ever"
which of course it never was, if you count the x820

Just picked up the T-629 for my wife tonight. Not too shabby on first impression. The micro SD slot is a nice touch.
I also got the blackberry pearl for myself. Also makes a nice first impression. My web/email access hasn't been set up yet, so we'll see how that goes.

A bit of clarification about the 619 - I was in a store today and a micro SD slot does not appear anywhere on this phone. Rep told me it was left out since this phone is replacing the T319

Thanks for the correction, foner - I've updated the post. This little detail appears to have changed since we first heard about the phone a while back.

T619 is $79.99 after rebate, not $150.

Even more clarification - the 619 is priced now at 79.99 - which I was told was the original launch price -

Anyone know if the T629 has a calendar function?
I'm looking for something to replace a no-longer-gracefully-aging Nokia 3660.
It was a great phone; nearly indestructable, bluetooth, camera/video, large and relatively sharp screen, removable memory, and syncable calendar. I'd miss any of those features... any other ideas? btw- no longer under contract.

Yes there is a calender on T629.

The t629 is now down to $99.99 after rebates, and has been at that price since at least January.
