The Boy Genius Report: Unboxing the Motorola KRZR K1

Finally we have it folks, the full retail version of the now Motorola KRZR K1. Moto did the retail KRZR the justice of fixing some little things since I last laid hands on it back in April, and polishing up the retail version. The key pad is no longer bulging out (it's flush), the backlight color is changed from dark blue (a la the V3i), to a light green to make things easier to see, and the speaker has been dramatically improved. Nice! Thanks to CTI-Miami.com for the hookup.

They changed the backlighted keypad from Dark Blue to Light Green? Sounds like a DOWNgrade to me. Boooo!!! Hopefully the K1m stays blue.

Green LEDs can be quite sexy. Apple and the PS2 have been using them for a little while now. I'll wait and see...

I just don't see the appeal in this phone. It's the cell phone version of Nicole Richie.
Jmiller @ Sep 17th 2006 5:26PM
So is this available for sprint or what because I am ready to buy if it is.

hehe, got one on Friday. Feels really good, and a bit heavier than V3, but definitely can boost your social class a few classes up... ;]
the back cover is very hard to open though, but i guess after a few tries it will loose up? Screen is smaller than V3 with the same 176x220 dimension, so seems like graphics look a bit sharper than V3.
Anyway, it's awesome to show off K1 during my subway ride ;p

This phone is coming for both Sprint and Verizon soon, and possibly for Cingular later.

#10 - I don't know how it's going in the States but Samsung designs are horribly recycled if not borrowed. The SE K790 and K800i are hardly niche either, they are becoming quite common as a poor man's N73 (yes I know K800i came out first). The KRZR is in a different league -one that was electrifyingly expanded by the RAZR. It's a fashion phone, in the league of LG Chocolate and Nokia 8800 and I hate to say it, but the me-too Samsung Ultra Editions. In that league, the KRZR surpasses all of its competitors. Also I used the K800i, very plasticky and the shutter doesn't look to durable. The KRZR's got reinforced Quartz, and metals. Why are you so passionate about something as trivial as cell phones anyway #10? Is it because you couldn't get the RAZR before it became pedestrian?

Hey Everyone!
I was wondering when the phone will be arriving to T-Mobile or Cingular. (USA Carriers)

Hola, me interesaria saber cuanto me saldria este celular Motorola KRZR K1 con el envio a Argentina?; Saludos.
Jake @ Nov 13th 2006 5:52PM
I'm a little rusty with my Spanish but:
Yo pagué 400 dollares para mi KRZR. El envio fue libre para mí. Es para Sprint y no es solamente el K1, es el K1m. No sé la diferencia, pero una letra más es más mejor!!
and sorry, i learned castellano, i dont know if this makes sense

Within 2 weeks I have had to purchase 2 KRZR V1 cellphone from Cingular. The first one has very muffled call quality. Cingular sent me a replacement and it is even worse. I had read that the sound on calls is supposed to be clear, sharp and higher fidelity over the other Motorola phones. My wife has the V557 and my son has a RAZR V3...and they sound great. I trust my ears, and everyone that tries my KRZR has told me the sound of calls is horrid.
I have not found anyone anywhere that has this phone and can discuss the actual sound quality during a call.
I have contacted Motorola's KRZR department...yes a separate department only for KRZR. And they are very hard to contact.
They do not know anything about the call quality because most of them do not own the KRZR.

The phone is beautiful. Unfortunately, I've experienced some problems with it. The warranty support has been incredibly frustrating. Read the details here: http://motophonesupport.blogspot.com/.
