HTC Libra / UTStarcom 5800 also revealed
Among the other unannounced-announced HTC devices at CTIA this fall: the HTC Libra (aka UTStarcom 5800). Details are yet scarce (so what else is new), but the super thin device will have a compacted keyboard (even by HTC's standards) with an offset space bar as well as an external numeric keypad. But wait, it gets better. EV-DO Rev. A radio. Q1 2007 launch. GSM version inbound for 07. Yeah, we know, we're pretty stoked too.

EVDO....this wouldn't also happen to have wifi would it?!?!

Interesting, but I think they should have gone one way or the other with the keypad and keyboard: either sacrifice the keypad for a bigger screen, or sacrifice the keyboard for a thinner profile.

Doesn't look "super thin" to me...

HTC dosnt seem to realize they need to put a dedicated row for numbers on these things. JERKS! :)

#5: Just look @ the picture... It's WM 5.0 PPC edition.
#4: I'm happy with the external keypad. You'll probably still be able to use those number keys when the device is open.
I'm just wondering what happened to the directional pad. There must be a jogdial on this thing, but still...
Can't wait for the GSM version. Might pick it up if it has a good processor (like the TyTn) and wifi.

The screen says Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC Phone, but the hardware buttons say Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone.

Will this have WM 5.0 Pocket PC or Smartphone edition?
Vince Anido @ Dec 13th 2006 8:11PM
How can it be a Smartphone Edition w/o a 4-way stick? My money says it'll be PPC.

Spoke to a Alltel Rep, he said the Libra will have WIFI and will be sharing the sprint (data only) network for high speed access. He thought the device should be available sometime in Febuary.

that's a piece of awesome news you've got there, blackswamptrader!
Fingers crossed that the person's right!
