I don't want to spend money on a device that doesn't have a camera on board when it is the standard now. What can you really do with this device that the PPC-6700 or the T-Mobile Dash can't do? The fact that these models _don't_ have a camera is the main reason I'm looking at them. Comes with some very nice software such as the remote control option ( I was able to control my cable box and tv in about 3 minutes ). I put my OCZ 4 Gig SD card with my music on it and it accepted it no problem, I have basically created an Ipod.

Calls are clear and so far no complaints. Text messaging works great. I have Goodlink mobile messaging for email and its awesome.

I like the phone, the only thing I miss is the digital camera my Treo's have, but oh well.

Overall: I'll keep my Treo 700wx in my dresser drawer "just in case" this phone starts giving me problems, but I give it a 9 out of 10 for a smartphone.

Federico

Comments on Samsung's IP-830w Pocket PC for Sprint

The only thing I hate about this phone is that my BT volume is so low that most people cannot hear me. The phone is great but the sprint tech support is atrocious. Half of the time they don't even know the phone exists. And getting help with a problem is a joke. Finally, finding a third-party GPS software package to work with this phone has been a nightmare. Sprint's usual telenav and garmin applications will not work on the phone. Nor will other third-party applications. And if you're thinking about going into your local retailer Don't bother they don't know anything about them either. It seems like Sprint put out the phone, but forgot to tell tech-support their third-party vendors that they were introducing a new model.

Todd

Comments on Samsung's IP-830w Pocket PC for Sprint

I've had the ip-830w for 2 weeks and am pretty happy with it so far. Comparing it to the T-Mobile MDA Pocket PC phone, I can say that the lack of camera is not a big deal because the 1.2mp camera on the MDA isn't great. Also, people complain about reception on the MDA, so I'm glad the ip-830w has an antenna. The apps on it are pretty good. I like the Picsel browser that lets you see whole web pages that can be zoomed.

The keyboard on the ip-830w is much harder to use than the MDA keyboard. The keys are in a small, vertical space. They are small and you have to press hard. I also had trouble finding the "a" key, because the keys next to it are silver and by comparison, you can barely SEE the "a" key. And you will need both hands if you are using the keyboard... but that is true of the MDA as well, and probably the Treos.

I have the Vision plan that lets you use the internet on the phone. Sprint's Edge/EVDO is really fast. The MDA is considerably slower. I put an SDIO WiFi card in the phone, so I can easily connect to computers on my network at work.

Sprint has always given me good customer support. Perhaps it is because I've been with them for 9 years. It's true some of the support people don't know about the Samsung phone, but they will find someone who does. And the International Roaming group, which has a separate 800# is pretty well informed and helpful. I think the biggest problem is that Sprint doesn't realize more people would buy this phone, if only it were available. There was only one store in the San Francisco Bay Area where I could find this phone! Even online, it is hard to find it.

My only peeve is that (at least at this time), the GSM part of the phone is locked to Sprint's roaming partners. That means I have to carry a spare unlocked phone to Europe/Africa, for those countries that don't have roaming contracts with Sprint. I hope they will change that policy soon.

Elise

Comments on Samsung's IP-830w Pocket PC for Sprint

hey elise did you find a third party GPS program for the ip-830w, I NEED ONE. if u have a solution or anyone does thanks alot.
