We encourage everyone to take these tidbits with the usual boulder-sized grain of salt, but America's favorite (read: only) HSDPA carrier has dropped their September launch grid, and on account of our friends' slippery hands, it's subsequently found its way over to Engadget HQ. Thanks to our own
Boy Genius among countless other tipsters, nothing on the grid has really taken us by surprise -- no UMTS 1900 N80s, for example -- but we're encouraged by Cingular's (foolhardy?) optimism that the
8525 might yet see a release this month. Also allegedly along for the ride are the
3125, the oft-promised but rarely-delivered
Nokia E62 (which turns out to be a lifetime exclusive for Cingular), the Samsung SGH-C417 that now appears to be
on limited sale, and Sony Ericsson's middling
W300 Walkman flip. And, oh yeah, the
Motorola L6 is in there, too. Don't ask us.
[Thanks, anonymous tipster]

Whatever happened to the w800i?
Mike @ Sep 6th 2006 10:29PM
Note the absence of the HP IPaq hw6900 Mobile Messenger series. It was supposed to have been released in June.
Lib @ Sep 6th 2006 9:58AM
I LOVE my 4 month old E61 due to the wifi that i use all the time; why cingular would sell the castrated E62 makes no sense....NOT worth the $$$!!!
Mike @ Sep 6th 2006 10:11AM
Is it now safe to assume that there's no Treo 750x/p slated for September?
Ceity @ Sep 6th 2006 10:17AM
Not that I'm waiting, but wasn't there supposed to be a magical little v3i joining cingular eventually?
albert @ Sep 6th 2006 10:31AM
and where, WHERE, is the k790?
badmojo @ Sep 6th 2006 10:33AM
I was in Cingular just the other day and the slaes guy told me the SE w800 was the next "cool" phone coming out. Personally, I was hoping for the 8525... but whatever... as long as some newer stuff starts making it's way to Cingy, it's a start.
badmojo @ Sep 6th 2006 10:34AM
oh yeah... i also heard the v3i was on the horizon... but do we really need a nother one of those?
hesh @ Sep 6th 2006 10:46AM
I have the 8125, but I really want the 8525. I might have to splurge and maybe use the 8125 for testing or something.
camp @ Sep 6th 2006 10:59AM
8525 for me...I can't wait for the Treo 750 any more. If Cingular can get the 8525 in stores this month I'll have to jump at it.
badmojo @ Sep 6th 2006 11:00AM
i haven't really decided if I want to get the "crippled" 8525 or bust out the wallet for the Tytn or a Nokia E61... both having not been castrated in translation to Cingular.
David @ Sep 6th 2006 11:06AM
The RAZR V3i was just released today online...
Nando @ Sep 6th 2006 11:31AM
Cingular is a GREAT cell provider when it comes to castrating mobiles and then turning them "exclusive". I really dislike them for that.
Nokia finally released the N80 in the US but mysteriously the UMTS1900 has dissappeared. My question which is where did it go?!?!? All the hype about a dual band UMTS Nokia and bam...gone. Expansys (mobileplanet for us US folks) tells me that the only version out is a UMTS2100 and not dual band...
Anyone hear different or actually have one of these beauties in their hand?
Michael @ Sep 6th 2006 12:23PM
What about all those ultra slim new Samsung ultra edition phones?
scott @ Sep 6th 2006 11:43AM
david,
thanks for the head's up! i see it listed as $249 after mir. question - does it make sense to release this so late in the game when the new krzr should be coming out between now and the end of the year? and if the krzr does hit around late november for the xmas shopping season, how expensive will it be - #399????
seems to me that cingular/moto shot themselves in the foot waiting this long. if this had launched in june, no problem. at this point, i wonder how many people will skip this and wait for what's coming in a month or two.
Eagle117 @ Sep 6th 2006 12:58PM
What happened to the HP hw6925?!?
milo of scorpio @ Sep 6th 2006 1:42PM
Why is everybody asking for the w800i, when the w810i has already conquered the world, it really sucks that people in countries like mexico have had that phone since may, and we are barely asking for a phone that is more than a year old? and don't even ask about the w850.
PLEASE ENGADGET GIVES ANY NEWS ABOUT THE W810.
PS. It seems like the w300 is coming out this month but the problem with that phone is that it doesn't use a memory stick duo, it uses the memory stick micro m2 and I am inunded with duos and anyways I haven't in my life seen a memory stick micro m2 WTF is that?.
BTW I am talking about sony ericsson phones.
Scott @ Sep 6th 2006 2:05PM
badmojo,
I understand removing the video cam on the 8525 since the network won't be able to support it anytime soon, but I'm with you on removing wifi from the E61. That's a mind boggler...especially considering they allowed HTC to keep wifi on the 2125, 8125 and (presumably) 8525.
Whatever the case, I'm definitely getting an 8525.
Jason @ Sep 6th 2006 2:27PM
Damn...i've been waiting for the 3125 to come out so I can finally switch from Verizon...w00t!
badmojo @ Sep 6th 2006 3:39PM
i can live without the video cam part, since I wcan't even imagine using it with anyone in the next year or so at least... but the wifi is a total dropped ball and that's why it's either the 8525 or an out of pocket E61...
Hmmm... such choices! Is that the only confirmed crippling of the 8525?
Donald @ Sep 6th 2006 10:49PM
1) That's not just an L6, that's an L6 BLACK. Ooh la la.
2) w810, if all goes well, will be in stores in October. So you're looking at the new year for it.
3) Treo 750 slated for October/November.
4) k790 hasn't even been submitted for testing. Looking at least at next March.
5) Cingular never said they'd pick up the N80. Nokia put out a few publicity shots to try to get Cingular to pick it up, but it didn't work - because the rumored US version only had UMTS1900 and not 850.
6) hw6925 delayed, not only in US but for the Canadian release as well. November release likely.
7) Wifi intact on 8525, Nokia produced the E62 to provide carriers with a lower-cost entry - it's a totally seperate device that never had wi-fi.
sonofnone @ Sep 6th 2006 5:28PM
So let me get this straight, they got rid of the w600 and they're replacing it with the w300? What the hell!? Give me the w810 now!
Jeff A. @ Sep 6th 2006 11:33PM
I Just bought the w810i on Monday. I was tired of waiting for Cingular to have it. If they release it next week, I might cry. Or just return the it and buy it from Cingular, as it must be much cheaper.
RyanTV @ Sep 6th 2006 8:17PM
No treo... no HP hw6945... laaaaaaaaaaaame.
Rusty @ Sep 6th 2006 8:40PM
Just buy an unlocked W810i, you'll thank yourself afterwards anyway. No "2 year lock in", no crippled features. No "glitches" of branding the firmware to Cingular that plauged the W600i. As long as I can afford them, I'll take an unlocked over a "branded" phone any day.
CingularOwnsMe @ Sep 19th 2006 12:24AM
First off, sorry to burst everyones bubble, but the 8525 will not be released this month. It may actually come out oct/nov. Data support reps have not even played with the devices yet, but a few of the managers have. The 3125 should be coming out this month, as long as everything goes well with the testing. The nokia E62 will be coming out, don't know when. The other phones, I really don't care about so I don't even bother finding out.
Ben @ Sep 7th 2006 12:18PM
Am I missing something or did anyone else notice that in that picture the 8525 is only triband???
David @ Sep 7th 2006 1:42PM
i don't understand the comments of "why buy the v3i when you can get the krzr this month when it is released"
back when the v3i was originally supposed to be released people were saying the same thing about whatever other obsolete phone was already out "why buy X if the v3i is about to be released"
you could be waiting for eternity until the next "great phone" is released which is supposedly just around the corner...
Donald @ Sep 7th 2006 10:48PM
"Am I missing something or did anyone else notice that in that picture the 8525 is only triband???"
Triband HSPDA. 850/1900/2100 mhz.
Arthur @ Sep 11th 2006 11:47AM
I think it might be out already according to a posting on gizmodo dated 9/10. However, I could not find it on the cingular web site.
Steve @ Sep 13th 2006 1:19PM
The k790 is available from the Sony Ericsson website for $499, unlocked and unbranded.
Michelle @ Sep 14th 2006 9:09PM
Any word on the Samsung SGH-i607? Rumor has it Cinglar will release it in 3Q 2006.
Arthur @ Sep 21st 2006 3:20PM
Sony Ericsson W300i is out on the cingular web site now. Looks like all most all of the devices on that sheet are either out or already announced that they will be out in September. Too bad 8525 is not out yet...
DSmithZ28 @ Sep 25th 2006 2:00PM
Who then prioritizes Cingular Data Support reps work load? The 8525 should be the number ONE phone on their list!
Arthur @ Oct 1st 2006 10:04AM
Looks like September has passed and hopefully, the 8525 will be (and not may be) released early October instead of late October or even early November.
