The Boy Genius Report: BlackBerry 8100 retail details

The much awaited T-Mobile BlackBerry Pearl (8100) will be officially released in T-Mobile retail stores on September 18th, with launch shipments to be received by August 28th. Now I present to you, my Engadget reading friends, pictures of the 8100 retail box!
Update: Boy Genius just sent us some new info stating that release is being bumped up into September 12th. Seems a little dubious considering the NDA'd announcement stated the 18th, but maybe they're trying to throw us off their scent.

does anyone know if i get an unlocked one, if the email and other data functions will still work with other providers (not like the sidekick which will only work with t-mobile)????

The phone on the box does not look as HOT as the actual phone Boy Genius is showing. It does not appear to have those chrome sides that give the phone that Sleek look. If it looks like the unit on the box, it comes of as a regular run of the mill phone. I hope it looks like the one BG is showing

Actually from looking at the pictures on the box, I think it doesn't look chrome on the box due to the print+picture. It looks to me that it actually has the same look, but the print+picture makes it look like it doesn't.
Tim/Gin:
I'm guess that you can, and will be able to use this on Cingular if you unlock it. Danger builds the Sidekick and has a deal with T-Mobile. You can in fact use the sidekick on other services, but you lose out on a lot of the services. With the BB Pearl/8100 it uses standard Blackberry services which are available on Cingular. That would be a guess though, but based on the fact that I have seen a cingular one unlocked and used on the t-mobile network without any problems before.

Any word on the price?

Maybe It's just me but does this seem like a buisness level sidekick 3 to anyone?
1.3 megapixel camera?
Real Web Browsing?
Support for 10 e-mail accounts?
I guess we'll find out more when t-mobile announces their voice and data plans for the pearl.

I wish they would have made this move (camera, etc extra features etc) on the QWERTY model phones first... suggesting as what is rumored that ive seen to be 8200...
my 8700 feels its life slipping away with every moment that the rumored 8200 grows.

You should be able to use an unlocked 8100 on Cingular's network without an issue. There's no real reason for it not to work since it's basically the same service.
I'm really looking forward to this thing. I'm growing very tired of my old 7290.

Can we pre-order it prior to the launch date?

I wonder how this phone compares to my MDA? (actually, I have the Korean one-Imate K-Jam)
