BenQ-Siemens' SL80 offers "feminine luxury"
Siemens' SL75 slider is all growed up now, and besides adding 5 to the model number, the SL80 (now by BenQ-Siemens, of course) seems to have developed an affinity for the fairer sex. Unlike its older sibling, the SL80 is only available in the decidedly feminine "Mauve Sensation," and BenQ is pulling no punches in saying the phone is aimed squarely at women. Skimming through the specs, it seems to be a modest upgrade from the SL75, offering an identical shell and button layout, the same tri-band GSM and EDGE support, 1.3-megapixel camera, 52MB of internal memory, Bluetooth, and music player. In fact, the more we look, the more it seems the SL80 is just a pink SL75. The boys among us are feeling far less excluded now than they were a few minutes ago; as for the ladies, you can pick up your own Mauve Sensation starting in October.

sherri @ Aug 31st 2006 7:36AM
That is the cutest phone!!!.. my daughters will want one when they see it...yipes!
Ellen @ Aug 31st 2006 7:51AM
I wouldn't carry a pink phone if they paid me. They sure aren't marketing it to me. Give me lime green or plum and they might have me thinking, but pink, come on! Not all of us "girls" are prissy.
Amie @ Aug 31st 2006 8:32AM
I think it's cute, but I would have to see how much it would cost before I went and bought it. Oh and FYI liking Mauve or pink or what ever, does not make a girl prissy. I am not prissy at all I just happen to think it's a nice color.
ATM @ Aug 31st 2006 8:53AM
'I wouldn't carry a pink phone if they paid me.'
Of couse yu wouldn't Princess. Pink would clash with your grungy Timberlands and plaid flannel workshirt. And I guess you'd have to carry it around in your lunch box. What a girly girl !
Chrissy @ Aug 31st 2006 9:00AM
I have to agree that liking pink does not make you prissy, sure I like the color pink and I do like other colors as well, but do they offer purple? another one of my fav colors as well as teal? No they dont so I stick with my hot pink razr for now.
Maria @ Aug 31st 2006 9:15AM
hey and what's wrong with being "prissy" ?
Maria @ Aug 31st 2006 9:17AM
I agree with Amy, it is a very cute phone. I especially like the mauve it is the same color as my razr! Too cute!
Di @ Aug 31st 2006 9:33AM
The manufacturer seems to be trying to fool the public, presenting an older phone with a new model number while making no upgrades in its functionality. A simple color change doesn't warrant a new model number, dontcha think?
As for pink, why not? It's bizarrely funny that some people are making judgements about an entire human being based entirely upon their taste in phone colors!
Momof5 @ Aug 31st 2006 9:34AM
Give me a break. Not all women like pink, or mauve for that matter. I love gadgets but heck give me silver or black like my Razr V3 and my iPod 30GB. Stop this insanity of 'pink' marketing aimed at the Barbie crowd! It's a neat phone but please, mauve? Stupid.
denise @ Aug 31st 2006 9:41AM
All this over a phone and a color. Get real people, if only this were my only problem in life.
WOW, people getting pissy over the color of a phone. I'm with Amie, I'm not fond of the color pink because to me, it reminds me of a little girls room and it doesn't go well with my skin color. But, I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a prissy color. I'm a girly girl, but I also like to let my hair down and get dirty with the boys. ATM you had no reason to insult Amie like you did, grow up and react to a post like a mature adult.
Angel @ Aug 31st 2006 10:21AM
LOVE IT!!! I would want one if it were reasonable priced and YES PINK!!! I am PRISSY and happy 2 B :)Great looking phone but does need to B durable since I am not as Prissy in handling cell phones? OOPS :)What next, Chocalate phone, now PRISSY Pink, very feminine!!! Keep it up!!!
Cheryl @ Aug 31st 2006 10:24AM
If you really want to appeal to women, make "fingernail friendly" keys. I think something soft and rubbery would keep fingernails from slipping off the keys.
Landalenna @ Aug 31st 2006 10:38AM
Come on , PINK is for kidz, I want LIME GREEN PLEASE!!!
TYTYTY
Volante @ Aug 31st 2006 10:46AM
The phone does look cute..but not very durable. I've got 3 kids and 2 of them on the very younger side. it doesn't look like it would stand up to being accidentally dropped. The color? well yes its a nice color..but i think other colors need to be marketed too..like blues and purples.. bright bold colors. And if you're going to 'upgrade' a model do more than change the color..ya i totally agree with that!
I'm just glad that my oldest isnt responsible or old enough to have a cell phone yet. this would be right up her alley. but at the looks of it..its probably way out of our affordibility range.
ATM @ Aug 31st 2006 11:05AM
'ATM you had no reason to insult Amie like you did, grow up and react to a post like a mature adult'
No one insulted anyone. Please follow your own prissy advice! ;-)
Marcus @ Aug 31st 2006 11:18AM
Small and pink makes it a girl phone.
Teri @ Aug 31st 2006 11:31AM
I want a TEAL colored phone. Forget pink!
Kara @ Aug 31st 2006 12:06PM
ATM WAS rude - since when do people judge others over a PHONE color? Calling people "prissy" is mean spirited as adults, just like it would be in first grade. As far as the colors...why not? I have the magenta Razr and really like it, but I would also love the option of a vivid teal. That new phone marketed as chocolate caught my eye too, lol! It's fun to have choices and people enjoy personalizing their things.
Kara @ Aug 31st 2006 12:07PM
Sorry, my comments were aimed at ELLEN, not ATM - Atm was pretty funny since Ellen started it!
ATM @ Aug 31st 2006 12:18PM
Thanks Kara ;-)....and what I said to Ellen and Denise was in jest, it was not meant to be taken seriously.
BTW, there is a Chocolate phone....from Verizon, let me see if I can find it.
ATM @ Aug 31st 2006 12:25PM
Here is the Chocolate phone..http://www.verizonwireless.com/chocolate/
Donna @ Aug 31st 2006 12:37PM
I don't like it. I like the flip phones. Silver is fine for me. I like the smallest phone by cingular. Thats all folks. Have a nice day. call me.
Denise @ Aug 31st 2006 12:41PM
Why does it have to be pink? Im a girl and I hate pink? why cant it be blue or silver? they neeed to see that not all females are the same and like "pink"
Mandy @ Aug 31st 2006 1:08PM
Thank you, Cheryl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DawnMarie @ Aug 31st 2006 1:10PM
I love pink phones!!!!! I have the pink razor and am in love with all things PINK!!!! How cute and adorable. i am a girly girl and love it!!!
CheshireCat06 @ Aug 31st 2006 2:11PM
"MISOGYNY GOES WIRELESS"
Who wrote this?!
"TOUGH GIRL" version. When's THAT product release date?!! This pink phone is so demeaning.
Imagine using this thing in front of a male business client/co-worker.
PINK PHONE = COMPLETE LOSS OF CREDIBILITY
nina @ Sep 20th 2007 2:13PM
It's cute. I need to see more color in phones. I'm so sick of the black and silver. Is anyone else as sick of the black and silver as I am? They all look the same; nothing more than a black gadget
