The Boy Genius Report: BlackBerry Info Galore!
Field report tidbits from Engadget's mobile insider, the Boy Genius.
It has been confirmed to me that RIM will have a BlackBerry with WiFi most likely in time for a Christmas release this year. The device is said to be an 8700-type form factor. Also confirmed is a QWERTY BlackBerry with built-in camera, and similar specs to the current Pearl / 8100, except with more RAM, a faster processor, and most likely an updated camera as well. This model is the BlackBerry 8200. The device is said to be the same size or very close to the Motorola Q. RIM is still testing out different hardware configurations and colors, but black seems to be the choice. I'm working on getting pics, so stay close!
[Man, Boy Genius is seriously in love with the BlackBerry these days! -Ed.]

Crap, I was hoping for once T-Mobile would get a cutting-edge product to market first.

I think Boy Genius got all corporate on us. No more shiny, useless Motorola's for us- it's all about "the man"'s phones lately.

If this new device is quad-band, has Wi-Fi and a sleek form-factor - I'm all over it.

Anybody know what carrier will offer this new BB first?

Man, and to think I was going to rush out and get an 8100 when they roll out. Guess I should wait a few months to see if something better comes along. ;)

When is BB gona release all this in one? Is it to much to ask to have wifi and a camera in one? I probly like many others havnt bought a Blackberry being it doesnt have a camera to catch all those random moments you want a picture of. This is one thing but wifi on your phone is like one of the biggest plus's out there so why cant i get them both outside one of them 800$ iMates or something. Put these 2 together and you'll have the hottest phone on the market period.

@Keith M. What do you mean by "I was hoping for once T-Mobile would get a cutting-edge product to market first". The 8100 IS on T-mobile, look at the pics again, and yes, I know the screen says Cingular, but it could be: a) Roaming on Cingular or b) Unlocked device on Cingular.

My upgrade path looks like this:
Currently: 7105t
Sept. 12th: 8100
Soonest: 8200
Faster processor, more memory, and a qwerty keyboard? Maybe even an updated camera? Where do I sign?

Hell freaking yes! I am totally with "kev" on this one. "Thin" is absolutely in and the thought of added "WIFI" makes me wanna cry. And to throw in multimedia features like a Camera and video with a full fledged "QWERTY" keypad, will have people owning lacking-amateur devices like the "Sidekick III", ricocheting them to the curbs and across the street to the other curbs. Its only the appropriate way to reach out to the "normal" consumer community. Don't you want that RIM? All this revenue can be yours... Make Us Proud Dammit!!!

Please let the carrier for the 8200 be T-Mobile....Please let it be so. Cingular SUCKS! Im surprised they're even getting the 8100.
