amazing...when is it coming out on Cingular?
Alex @ Aug 22nd 2006 6:53PM
The lack of wi-fi sucks. :(
kaps @ Aug 22nd 2006 7:10PM
that is hot - kills the Q
Shon @ Aug 22nd 2006 7:11PM
wow. smaller than i thought. i dunno about that keypad tho. what say you Boy Genius?
scott @ Aug 22nd 2006 7:19PM
why is it everytime i see pics of the 8100, it shows it on cingular's network? is tmo so bad that the pearl can't find a tmo tower anywhere!?!?!?
Dave Zatz @ Aug 22nd 2006 7:20PM
Looks awesome! Interesting that the phone has T-Mobile branding, but the home page is Cingular as is the network displayed on the screen.
skyjet @ Aug 22nd 2006 7:24PM
When is this coming out again?
ItsAllVerbatim @ Aug 22nd 2006 7:52PM
I FUCKING LOVE IT!
And this is a unbranded version, an unlocked T-Mo handset or a Cingular iteration. Someone hit me up on the MySpace to let me know.
SWEETNESS!! *starts thinking about how to break up with 7130c*
Skrilla @ Aug 22nd 2006 8:01PM
@No. 8 -> You fool, it says T-Mobile on the phone!
ItsAllVerbatim @ Aug 22nd 2006 8:37PM
#9 - I was so excited - and viewing it while I was supposed to be working BTW - I didn't see that...my bad.
Shoot me.
Harry @ Aug 22nd 2006 9:53PM
Don't like suretype.
Tried it, and I like the QWERTY keyboards better.
shazam @ Aug 22nd 2006 10:01PM
On the first image under the 8:28pm time it says Cingular...but on the third image it clearly shows the T-Mobile logo? What gives?
IWantTouchScreen @ Aug 22nd 2006 10:04PM
So sexy...so slow online with edge...once you've had evdo, it's hard to go back
David @ Aug 22nd 2006 10:12PM
there is nothing odd about it having a t-mobile logo and using cingular. you can switch to the Cingular network on most/all t-mobile phones in the menu if you want
Bristol @ Aug 22nd 2006 10:42PM
A lot of T-mobile phones are locked to their network. Changing the SIM is not enough. Does anyone have any way of knowing if Blackberry can also be locked? I would not want to use this on T-mobile even if I bought from them at full price. I would buy this in a heartbeat just for the voice recognition, which is BB's major shortcoming (unless you like to run WM5 apps and games...)
Darkshadow @ Aug 22nd 2006 11:11PM
Now that I look at it, was this the phone that movie guy was using in the recent Stargate SG1 ep? It looked too slim to be the normal blackberry smartphone (the other one with the similar keypad).
Weegee @ Aug 22nd 2006 11:15PM
I went to a T-Mobile store on my way to work today, and one of the reps was kind enough to let me play with the Pearl, it came in retail packaging. Looks like the final version will have a 1.3MP camera to anyone still wondering.
ecco @ Aug 22nd 2006 11:18PM
Finally!! T-mobile has a phone I want to upgrade to! Can't wait for this baby to come out.
I have t-mobile and travel on business way too much, my BB will sometimes show Cingular as the tower it's connected to and not T-mobile. Just depends on the area you are in at the time.
Bristol @ Aug 22nd 2006 11:40PM
Is T-mobile selling this soon?
Nick @ Aug 22nd 2006 11:59PM
The Boy Genius totally kicks ass at getting to play with phones before market.
the general @ Aug 23rd 2006 12:30AM
any chance of the pearl or a version like it coming out for nextel in the near future? i cannot stand my 7100i and am very close to poking myself in the eye with the antenna if it locks up on my again.... BB hook nextel up with the pearl!!
Dave @ Aug 23rd 2006 7:27AM
@21

Brad @ Aug 23rd 2006 8:55AM
Wow this Blackberry Rocks.... I have been waiting so long for Blackberry to come through with a versatile device that everyone could enjoy in the work place and outside. My big question is how long before Verizon Wireless picks it up????????????

@Dave
But you sure aren't as legendary for it.
Andy F @ Aug 23rd 2006 12:49PM
Boy Genius - Dimensions please? Is it really about the same size as a RAZR?
Brian @ Aug 23rd 2006 12:53PM
BG, can you snaps some RAZR comparison pics?
Elias @ Aug 23rd 2006 12:55PM
I take it these are going to be consumer-oriented because of the camera?
paolo @ Aug 23rd 2006 2:45PM
heres a thought maybe the phone is unlocked and he has cingular serivce
Miggiefresh @ Aug 23rd 2006 5:35PM
This thing sucks compared to the Q. Go ahead and try to type out an email on that keyboard.
Asian Voice @ Aug 23rd 2006 6:36PM
Funny this looks alot like my Sony Ericsson K750i that I had for 2 years now that has a Better 2.0 Mega Pixel Camera with Auto Focus.
What a waste of a cell phone. Typical Americans.
Donald @ Aug 23rd 2006 7:03PM
30: It may be similar to a k750, but I can't get my work e-mail hooked up to that particular mobile. So to that end, it's not a waste.
Tran Manh Hiep @ Aug 24th 2006 1:48AM
where is the wheel?
BB Pro @ Aug 24th 2006 1:41PM
This might be an unlocked device but chances are, since the 8100 has 850, it is just roaming on Cingular's network. T-Mobile has a 3 month exclusive from launch and I would assume that Cingular would be next in line.
John @ Aug 24th 2006 8:28PM
this is the best phone ever im gonna get it once it come out. September 18th. am i right
dstrauss @ Aug 25th 2006 10:11AM
Is this thing using a touchpad for scrolling? The browser video looks more like he's brushing the center pad than using it as a joystick.
Anyone have actual dimension measurements?
Sactotechie @ Aug 26th 2006 5:04AM
Is it me or am I seeing that chrome circle/wheel in the center spin as he moves his thumb over it to scroll menus???? Or is it just his touch on the chrome wheel(like ipod) that allows you to scroll menus????
JTreehorn @ Aug 29th 2006 3:14PM
Will this be able to play mp3's?
What will this thing cost without a contract when it comes out?
Can the 7130c play mp3's?
Robin @ Aug 30th 2006 3:24AM
@38 - - If you look at the setup option towards the end it shows options for a trackball so I would say it's a trackball set up :)
sam @ Aug 31st 2006 12:27PM
Does the new "Blackberry Pearl" play wav files?
Beth Ellen @ Aug 31st 2006 5:50PM
This is the phone/PDA/Camera that I have been waiting for! When will this phone be coming out? I am so glad I didn't buy the MDA or BB 8700!
G-DUB @ Sep 1st 2006 12:34AM
Yes it's for T-Mo on Sep 12th on the Q-T and very hush hush.
G-DUB @ Sep 1st 2006 12:44AM
Yes Kiddies it will be released on Sep 12th and correct it does have sd card, 1.3 camera,mp3 player,trackball-no crackthumb, and sadly no wi-fi, not enough security, 199.99 price:)
(name).... have not one @ Sep 2nd 2006 10:08AM
funny how y'all keep asking questions about the device, if you would read the "Boy's" report you would have the answers to what you ask.
a mind is [such] a terrible thing to waste
Mister Customer @ Sep 4th 2006 12:42PM
my peers who have beta tested this device have nothing but nice things to say.
all i know is that im gonna be eatin' ramen noodles for the next couple of weeks before this phone comes out.
must buy !!! hurry up and buy !!!
Gonzo @ Sep 5th 2006 4:24PM
Checked the demo out today - Very Nice and T-mobile on-line and stores will have it on September 12. The sureType keyboard works great. I have used the 7100 and now the 7105 and after about 2-3 hours of use with the 7100 I could type just as fast as I did on the sidekick II. Now with a camera and the best mobile email this thing rocks. Feels very well built and nice and small. You cant get any smaller than this and be user friendly for typing. I will be getting one!
digifreak wannabe @ Sep 8th 2006 12:02PM
Hi Boy Genius, I read a CNET review of the Pearl and it said the call reception on this beauty sucked...is that true?
digifreak wannabe @ Sep 8th 2006 8:20PM
Oh, BG, do you have any idea what the price will be without a contract? Hopefully not something like $400-$500.
Eman @ Sep 12th 2006 11:27AM
Well Guys!
After reading this site, I was at my local tmo store at 8:00am this morning, only to find out that they are not set up yet to upgrade existing customers to this phone! After a huge headache, and bitching out 3 customer service people, the people at the store agreed to charge me 429.00 for the phone, and I could try coming back in a few days to see if they could give me back the difference, with a contract extension.
Apparently, they haven't set up a full price for this phone yet b/c they are using it to attract new customers. I went through this a few months ago when I wanted to get the PEBL, and all I have to say is that tmo needs to get their stuff together. When something is launched, they should have this kind of stuff worked out already, I mean, it's not the first time they've released a new phone on their service.
Sorry for the long blog, but if you're an existing customer, be prepared to pay full price....if someone's had a different experience, please let me know.
