A spectrum of HTC's highly-anticipated
Hermes variants are finally coming around in the retail pipeline, and what better way to celebrate than with a launch roundup? Regardless of your continent, odds are one or more of these flavors are available in your parts -- and if not, your friendly local import shop shouldn't have a difficult time hooking you up. As you come across other launches, do your fellow readers (and us) a favor and post 'em in the comments. Thank ye kindly!

anyone know which one the USA is getting? I hope the HTC TyTN. Best looking one in my opinion. Looks like they let SE design it.

i heard over on the grapevine of another blog that there was a 9-17-06 release date in the USA for the hermes on cingular, who will be calling the phone the 8525

I got a 8125 from Cingular for my wife a couple months back and the sales guy said there was a whole slew of MS smartphones heading Cingulars way this summer. Hopefully this will be the kickoff.
I like the specs and after messing around with the 8125< i'm hoping this one's better (especially the phone part).

Anyone know if Verizon is gonna get one of these? or are they going to continue to nerf everything in the cell phone world...

Verizon kind of already has something, so there probably wont be a new one anytime soon.
The Apache (PPC-6700) is different than the wizard (Cingular 8125, T-Mobile MDA, the predecessor to the Hermes) in that it has a CDMA/EVDO radio chipset and the previous-gen 416mhz Intel process compared to the wizards 205mhz TI OMAP processor with quad GSM/EDGE.
The Hermes has the latest generation Intel 416mhz chip and the full 3G/wifi communications chipset, Quad GSM, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, 802.11b/g.
So the Hermes will be slightly faster and get a little bit better battery life (newer processor revision) compared to the 6700. Other than that its just 802.11g, front facing camera, and the GSM/UMTS/HSDPA part which wouldn't be featured on a Verizon phone anyways.

Oh and Verizon WILL nerf every phone they get. They intentionally don't want you to have some of the advanced features that would let you share the high speed access or advanced bluetooth integration with other devices. Its probably going to remain that way for some time.
