Manufacturer posts OS update, manufacturer discovers update wasn't quite ready for prime time, manufacturer pulls update from web.
Sound familiar? Moto teased us with the long-awaited
AKU2 update for their Q, but pulled it from their website a scant two days later after "realizing" that it was still in beta. Needless to say, the prerelease cut's still floating around the web and shouldn't be terribly hard for hardcore Q users to get their hands on, but the faint of heart might just be better off for the real deal to drop since it wipes your device clean -- not to mention that Moto's hinting the beta does nasty things to your warranty.

I'd love to know how Motorola can discern between a Q that was flashed from the AKU2 posted on their site and the beta that was copied from it after being pulled. One voids the warranty, and the other doesn't... right...

Most importantly, why didn't the Q ship with this update already on it?!?!

I updated my Q a few days ago. Push email is fast about 10 seconds or so. I have noticed my bettary life is a little better.
Just last week I was going to ditch the q and go back to a bb, but this has put some new life in to it. Now we just have to wait for qcaps. Check qusers.com for info on that app.

Somehow I'm not suprised.
You know those days that start off with you walking into your bathroom door for some reason and the rest of the day you are either hurting yourself or nothing goes your way. That's been the WinMob scene for the past 15 months. The manufactures, carriers and developers have all walked into that door and are still fumbling their way through the rest of the day. (15 months later)

Man, I'd been lusting over this thing for months. I'm a Palm guy who wants to converge devices but thinks the Treo is too fat and heavy. I was seriously considering defecting to WinMob because of this luscious form factor. Finally played with one in the store the other day and there's no dang memo function! All that qwerty and only emails to type. Booo! Maybe I was missing something or maybe that's just a reality of the smartphone edition. Guess I'll hold out for a Nitro or whatever.

What warranty?
I tried to exchange my Q for another Q at verizon after 30 days and they told me to piss off.

#5. Eric,
You can always download freeware apps to fill that purpose: PocketNotepad for example.
You might also want to check out the XV6700 which is a WinMob Pocket PC Phone for Verizon. It might be as thick as the Treo but it's also thinner and shorter.

Good thinking, RK. Not being familiar with that OS, I didn't realize they had the same gig as Palm in terms of a freeware developer community but of course that makes sense. I guess I've always considered them the great, inefficient, restrictive satan and it's taking me a while to warm up. Just invested in one final non-phone Palm pda. I figure I'll rock that for a couple years and finally converge after that, assuming the Q's and smartphone OS's of the world have matured a bit.
