Samsung's 6.9mm SGH-X820 reviewed
We'd generally expect that you're going to give up some functionality, usability, or both when attempting to cram a phone's worth of electronic wizardry into a 6.9mm-thick package. In testing Samsung's X820, though, phoneArena found otherwise -- not only is the phone's screen surprisingly bright (though impossible to read in direct sunlight) and the speakerphone loud and clear, but the keypad apparently provides some solid tactile feedback, too. Menus lagged a bit during normal operation, but frankly, we've experienced the same phenomenon in much thicker phones, so we can't much fault the X820 for that; now if they'd only throw in a little GSM 850 action, we might be willing to give this thing a ringing endorsement ourselves.

if they threw in 850 it would probably get the scpl to market faster; so go for it! at least this phone manages to be super slim without looking anorexic like the razr or slvr.

NO! No GSM 850! I want this to myself! Any fashionable phone with an 850 band always goes to Cingular first, and I'm sick of it! Luckily, we already know T-Mobile is getting this phone (Engadget posted about it a while ago, and all those Cingular whores are just gonna have to deal! Suck on that!

You know, if it was quad band, it would only benefit you. If cingular gets it first, then just buy an unlocked one and use it with tmobile. 850 helps you a lot with tmobile too because of the 850 roaming agreements that you do not get to use with a non 850 phone.

Unfortunately, T-Mobile's version isn't black. It's that silvery color, which I personally dislike. I doubt being so thin that replacing the housing would be anything but the worst idea possible...

1. Bought this in Hong Kong to roam there and in Taiwan. Cingular SIM with the right plan just plugged right in and go. Cingular didn't care what phone I have when I called them upon my return.
2. Camera has significant shutter lag. Good for still subjects. No flash.
3. Connector for USB/Charger/Headphones is really thin. Guarantee breakage for the ham-handed.
4. Included headphones are mediocre, but also has microphone and switches automatically when call comes in. There is an airplane mode (phone part is off) and can use it for short amount of music.
5. Car chargers and other accessories available from Samsung are the same for the Samsung T809 slide from T-Mobile.

The 850 version is actually quad-band GSM/EDGE

I've been testing this phone at work for a couple of weeks now and it's a winner. most of it's positive points have been covered in the above comments but I'd like to add that it has a great UI too. It's easy to use and looks great.
