Verizon and LG release Chocolate phone, stop the madness
With release dates galore, unboxing pics and of course a whole former life as Korea-only hawterness, you can understand if we're happy to be "done" with this one. Verizon has finally released LG's Chocolate phone, the VX8500. There's a mostly a dearth of surprises: sexy slider action in a 0.69-inch thick form factor, V Cast Music store support, 1.3 megapixel camera and some speedy EV-DO. The biggest news is that along with the release, Verizon is dropping the $15 monthly fee from their V Cast Music store, making downloads "only" cost the two buck fee for dual PC and phone downloads. So, if you haven't already bought one and sent us unboxing pics, you can pick up the $150 phone (after a $50 rebate) and be the coolest kid on your block for at least five seconds.

dp @ Aug 2nd 2006 11:13PM
This isn't even the latest Chocolate phone. The one from Korea is slicker.

I don't like chocolate but this is definately on my christmas list. What does it mean about dropping the $15 fee though?? everytime you download a song on it you pay $2?? like a ringtone?? I'm confused lol

Worst invention ever. Nothing but problems. I hate this phone.
elgee02 @ Jan 28th 2007 1:05PM
Having dealt with hundreds upon hundreds of these phones since August, I can tell you overall it is a pretty good phone.
Owners of the Chocolate tend to either be very satisfied with phone and have few to little complaints, or they hate the phone with a passion. Very few shades in between.
Overall the number of satisfied Chocolate owners still far outweighs the dissatisfied ones, but in all honestly there are better phones in the VZW lineup such as the lg-vx9900 enV or lg-vx8600.

I have had my CHocolate for 3 months now and absolutely hate it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It does random stuff while you are talking. Beping and earasing things. Verizon is killing me about exchanging it. I hope it melts or something..

I've got two college age girls whom I purchased the "chocolate" phone for at about the same time and that sliding mechanism for the handset has gone from slightly loose from almost day one to where both ( and they have returned each one at least once) of the sliders have come completely off of the tracks.
My question to all of you chocolate owners is, just how many of you have had the same experiences so I may verify numbers and then how have you all dealt with this issue for those whom it's happened to?
Please write back all comments concerning this as they both have other friends who have had the same experiences and they are all dealing with it in various, perplexing ways and I need to know the best approach to handling this with Verizon themselves as, IF it is an across the board type problem, I have a case with which to stand on for an exchange to a different design for the girls and Verizon can be made aware of the problem and hopefully fix whatever it is that is happening and then at long last I should just choose a different style which won't be so sketchy for the girls.
Now, I've examined the phones and that sliding mechanism seems all too wobbly to me and the girls haven't been abusive with the handling of the phones so, either we're dealing with a "bad batch" of phones here and I need to make one more exchange or the design is flawed and we need to just change phones completely.
Thanks for all of your insights and shared experiences!

This is the worst phone in the entire world. i have had 5 of them so far. everyone i know hates it to death. the screen just randomly goes white and breaks without you even touching it. not to mention when it randomy calls people without you pressing a button. yeah thats awkward. i cant get a new phone because my insurance company is gay. i honestly might just give up on phones. i hate this piece of crap more than anything in the world. DO NOT BUY IT!
bella @ Aug 4th 2008 1:29PM
THIS IS THE CRAPPIEST PHONE YOU COULD EVER BUY!
i hate it. ive had sevan replacement phones and it always breaks the same way. the screen turns blank after a year of using it.
and i lose all my pics and contacts everytime i have to order a new replacment phone; ughhhhhh i cant take this peice of shit anymore.
argggg~ i feel so bad my papi has to keep paying 50$ dollars just so i can get another peice of crap i call ''my phone'' /
and worst part is my contract doesnt end until feburary of next yearrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so im stuck with this until, next year.
and since im in puerto rico on vacation, i cant call my papi when i get to the airport. so he'll never know where i am when i get back to florida.

I really dislike verizons LG chocolate phone. Ive had a total of 7 chocolate phones so far. The screen has gone white 4 times, black once and would not turn on twice. My current chocolate is malfunctioning more than any other i've had thus far. The background picture will change to the default numerous times a day, i cannot watch/ or take videos because my phone will freeze and the screen will turn black until i take the battery out, and when i receive a picture message my phone will freeze until i take the battery out.
i CANNOT wait until my freaking contract is up with verizon.

I have to say this phone it the biggest piece of junk! I have the white chocolate when it first came out, went through about 5 of those. The worst off all was when I got the "white screen of death" I lost everything! And everytime I had a problem, Verizon gave me a refurbished phone! I bought a new one, I want a new one to replace the new one I paid for! Finally, after the 5th time, they gave me a discounted price for the newer model chocolate phone. WHAT A WASTE! This morning I get up, and the dumb thing won't stay on! I've been having problems with it just shutting off, but now just not turning on at all? I am fed up with LG! I miss my Samsung phones, I could throw those things into a brick wall, and they would be fine! I do have to say the one thing Verizon did do for me was every time I got a new phone, they gave me credits to download the same ringtones I had. Since none of this was my fault, and the phone sucks, it was nice to know I didn't have to pay for them again.
I think I will avoid LG at all costs, there products are junk!
