It's laid so bare at this point it's almost kind of an open secret, but contrary to
what we'd heard earlier (which was a week off), we've got launch dates and prices for Verizon's LG VX8500
Chocolate phone. Starting July 31st you'll be able to snag the phone online, and come August 7th you can get it in stores. The price? Not too terrible: $359 without contract, $249 with 1 year, and $199 for two years committed to the carrier. Might be a little more than we'd originally expected, but outside the Q you're not likely to see a sexier EV-DO device on Verizon for a little while yet.
[Thanks, V]

FINALLY! I BEEN WAITING A HELL OF A LONG TIME TO GET THIS PHONE. I CAN'T WAIT FOR IT TO COME OUT.

well, at least verizon redid the interface design for it (a little bit, though). and, aside from uglifying it for verizon, that's about all lg has done for this phone.
lg and verizon should be ashamed.

Will this phone support direct mp3 playback, or will files have to be converted to WMA, like on the new Samsung? Also, can anyone confirm that this phone will support A2DP?

Isn't this marketed for the ladies only. I'd laugh if i see a macho man use it, BROKEBACK MOUANTAIN!
-_- @ Jul 25th 2006 7:58PM
uh, not it's not, oishi. it's marketed to whoever want's to pay $200 to be stuck with verizon for 2 years and get a lobotomized phone.
and i do believe it's spelled m-o-u-n-t-a-i-n, not m-o-u-a-n-t-a-i-n. spell check.

yep, this chocolate is "fashion ladies" friendly:)

I too have been waiting for this handset for quite a while! It seems it'll be a tough one to negotiate for women with long nails (for the top buttons) and fat-fingered guys. Aside from that, it really looks good!
Slowly, but surely VZW is offering more phones that can do other things (LG8300, Moto Q having NO locked bluetooth feats, can make your own ringtones, etc). I'm sick and tired of CRY-BABIES whining about "VZW locks the fun stuff, they suck, etc. What are you going to use it for anyway??? Really? Just to say "Look what my phone can do!" Who cares! It's a PHONE! Get a life.

ah-ha! i believe i finally figured out why lg and verizon had to destroy such a nice phone in order to put it on the us market:
for the "fashion ladies".
yup.
without verizon's no-duh interface and the lg's lack of distinct buttons, these people would clearly have no way to figure out how to operate their phone.

It's marketed towards women?!
Too bad. I want it...
Because if I don't like it I can sell it on ebay for a ton of money!!
