Nokia releases N73 and N93 "multimedia computers"
Even if you're a die-hard Palm or Windows Mobile fan, it's hard to deny the appeal of Nokia's N-series lineup of S60-powered "multimedia computers," whose connectivity and imaging options are some of the best you can find on a smartphone today. As promised, the company has just officially released both the N73 (pictured, bottom) and N93 (pictured, top) handsets that we've been following for some time, and although you probably won't be able to pick them up through traditional channels, we know that they'll definitely be available at your local Nokia retail outlet. As a quick refresher, both of the phones (we know, we know, we're not supposed to call them phones) are highlighted by 3.2 megapixel, Zeiss lens-equipped cameras, with the N93 throwing in a 3x optical zoom and support for 30fps VGA video. Both models also feature high-res 2.4-inch displays, Bluetooth radios, a miniSD slot for image capture or rocking tunes, and quad-band GSM plus 3G UMTS capability. On top of all these attractive features, the N93 also gives you built-in WiFi with UPnP functionality, video out for replaying your precious memories on a big screen, and what sounds like better-than-average in-camera editing. We're still gonna stick with our current smartphones for now, but these models are so hot that we're seriously reconsidering our snobby insistence on rocking those handy QWERTY thumboards at all times.

That N73 looks sweet, hope O2 stick it on a free so i can upgrade for gratis. But of a shame it aint got wifi but otherwise appears to be a sound package, and a welcome change from SE (and their stupid M2 cards)
That N93 is fugly, which is a pity cos it has just about everything you could ask for in a convergance device. unfortuantely I think the bulk of the beast will ultimately prove its downfall IMHO.

So wait, the N93 is quadband now? I thought it was still EU triband with UMTS...
And might I suggest a Bluetooth keyboard if you want to rock these bad boys?
Tino @ Jul 24th 2006 3:44PM
See, why can't Verizon come out with phones like this???
bdswan @ Jul 24th 2006 3:50PM
I assume the UMTS is the Euro flavor. Any plans on when we'll get the US version? It seems like a waste to get a smartphone without 3G access.

Talked to our Nokia rep in the store the other day and he confirmed that these will not be coming to Cingular any time soon. He stated they were turned down flatly because of there price. Same call with the 8800 Cingular turned it down while T-mobile picked it up. I am a hard core Nokia user but can’t seem to get any love from my company on good Nokia phones our Nokia rep comes by to tell us about the great new entry level phones we are getting from Nokia. When all I want is to edit short films right on my phone!

Say its not so Ervin! COIngular morons. Does Cing want to sell me SERVICES or not? Give me the phone I want then I will add more data etc. The more the cell provides me the services I want the more I BUY the SERVICES. Gray market is not satisfying either especially as I want to consider the N80 [fine for N73] which will be difficult to find with 12900MHz instead of 2100MHz.

well, too bad the n93 won't be worth squat on the us market; it sports umts 2100 (which is incapable with cingular umts, and i'm NOT holding out for t-mobile umts) and 900/1800/1900, so it won't work very well on cingular's network. what a shame they couldn't pack quadband and dualband umts into this phone; now the us won't be able to get in on all the nokia coolness.

The N73 will replace my 6620 as soon as sufficient time has passed for all of the bugs to be worked out...

"See, why can't Verizon come out with phones like this???"
Because Verizon is CDMA has would lock out all of the features anyway.
Here's to hoping T-mo picks this up.

Truly sir, you are a man of impeccable taste.

If you want QWERTY and don't mind settling for a medicore 2MP camera, import/get a E70. That has Blackberry Connect too.
Mr. H @ Jul 25th 2006 12:47AM
Loose the lame dual hinge design to save some space and add a QWERTY keyboard in there somewhere, and I'd be all over the N93. It's hard to go back to just a keypad after you live with a full keyboard for awhile.

Got to admit i have always been a lover of Nokia for the simple fact they are easy to work without having to read the instruction manual, but the Nokia N93 looks a bit complex so what i would love to know is it complex or do i need to do the dreaded thing when i buy it and look at the manual?
Jen @ Jul 25th 2006 4:43PM
The N73 looks really good.
I was just about to purchase the n70, but it looks like I'm going to wait for the n73. I hope the FCC approves it already.
Donald @ Jul 25th 2006 7:40PM
It was approved by the FCC on July 11. So it's good to be sold in the US already.
Swaraj @ Jul 27th 2006 4:06PM
I live in Chicago and I called the new Nokia store that just opened here, but they said that they don't have either the N93 or N73 in stock. The guy said he didn't even know when they would be coming in. Still, they said that they would notify me when the phones came in. Has anyone else seen this phone at an actual store?
roy @ Aug 31st 2006 1:15PM
I was wondering when are these phones will be coming out for T-Mobile and Cingular Carriers. They are both USA carriers.
roy @ Aug 31st 2006 1:16PM
T-Mobile or Cingular when will they be coming out?
