Moto surprises with 3G MotoRAZR MAXX
Well, it's not an absolute surprise, we saw this model as an unnamed prototype floating around last month, but Motorola just officially took the wraps off of their new MotoRAZR MAXX, a purtiful followup to the V3x. At a mere 0.6-inches thick, the MAXX shaves a whole 0.2-inches off of the V3x. The new phone also adds EDGE and HSDPA in addition to the already speedy UMTS, making this handset much more likely to show up in the EDGE-friendly USA. Moto has included Bluetooth 2.0+ Enhanced Data Rate, 50MB of internal storage, a microSD slot for expansion and the snazzy glass front and touch sensitive music controls of launch buddy KRZR K1m. The 2.2-inch QVGA display is, of course, always welcome, as are the 2.0 megapixel and VGA cameras the phone has. Also, as a nice embellishment on the lot, the phone's details glow blue when receiving a call. Motorola is planning to release the phone to unknown markets and carriers in this half of 2006, our fingers are duly crossed.

Please don't cripple the bluetooth, Verizon!

What's this strange feeling...
... could I actually be WANTING a Motorola phone, especially something in the 4LTR line?
Forgive me, Olli, for I have sinned...

ARG! It's still not quad-band...and I actually wanted to buy it :(
Sam K @ Jul 24th 2006 11:42PM
Like Carlos just said, this is NOT quad band GSM. It's only supports GSM 900/1800/1900MHz and UMTS 2100MHz so there's no way it's going to come to the United States unless T-Mobile decides to carry it. It's probably only going to be released in Europe and/or Asia.

Unfortunately, the US version of this phone got S**tcanned. As an insider myself I am getting tired of the RAZR form factor but this phone does look pretty damn sweet in person......that glass panel in the front is going to get smudged alot but it does look teh hotness.

Why is motorola keeping this phone out of the us by making it Tri-band? This sucks big time!
-_- @ Jul 25th 2006 5:45PM
crap. i hate new releases and here's why:
about 3 sites i've gone to say the maxx has quad-band.
another 2 cry tri-band.
so what is it??
i think it's quad, just 'cause i'm optimistic.
oh, and that glass IS gonna break when you drop the phone. i say when because everyone drops a phone at least once. and if you say you don't, you lie!
JCA, why did the us version get "s**tcanned"? i know moto ain't THAT stupid to forget the good old us of a.

I'm sure it's QUAD if not just do a SEEM edit. Is it glass or is it Lexan? I think it is less glass and more glass like.

"I'm sure it's QUAD if not just do a SEEM edit. Is it glass or is it Lexan? I think it is less glass and more glass like."
Uh, if that were true, then why aren't people seem editing the V3x to make it quad band?
Andy @ Jul 26th 2006 2:02PM
Exactly, it's definately not a seem edit or I'd have 850 running on my V3x. The hardware is not there to run at those frequencies.
And as a side note, Motorola has set a new record time in issuing a replacement for my brand new electronics. I've had my V3x for about 2 weeks. Ahh well.
-_- @ Jul 26th 2006 4:38PM
um, andy, the v3x has been out for at least 1 year. like some other human beings, you just have bad timing. i can't believe it's NOT quad. until i see official moto specs off their website, i'm holding out, 'cause the razr xx is tri, and i'm pretty sure the maxx (which is supposed to be next up on the razr ladder) should be quad.
Andy @ Jul 27th 2006 11:41AM
Haha yeah, I know it's been out a while. I was just meaning that I personally just got mine. It's alright though, it's still a great phone and I would never consider paying the price that this thing is gonna cost new.

In regards to Motorola fixing a product...fastest turnaround time ever...2 days to fix my mpx220 and 2 more to send it back via ups 2day shipping...unfortunately its the 3rd time ive had to send it back LOL. Too bad there is no lemon law for phones. Thank God my primary phone is now a Cingy 3125.
