Somebody out there really loves us. An anonymous tipster just sent in a handful of pics of Motorola's impending followup to the RAZR -- formerly dubbed the
Canary, and now known by the nearly-unpronounceable series of letters
KRZR -- running on Verizon's CDMA network. Nothing here that we haven't seen before, but if you wanted a sneak preview of what this phone will look like in your hand as you watch all that wonderful V Cast swag, now you have a pretty good idea. Click on for a few more shots of the handset that Moto is hoping
another 50 million people will decide they just gotta have...

Wow, I wasn't under the impression that it was THAT small & skinny.
Austin @ Jul 23rd 2006 3:44PM
The keypad looks at least a little easier to use than the RAZR's... but how do you pronounce that name? The kerzer? Anyway here's hoping that itt'l have decent battery life with that thick compartment down at the bottom.
Jon Gales @ Jul 23rd 2006 3:47PM
It's not called the KRZR, it's the Motorola RAZR K1 (since it's CDMA, most likely the K1c). Check the FCC and Bluetooth approvals for official naming. KRZR came from Cingular and was most likely just used in place of the final name.
DAVID @ Jul 23rd 2006 3:49PM
I HATE VERIZONS USER INTERFACE CRAP.
why do they change it, i liked the old motorola interface.
blackout @ Jul 23rd 2006 3:52PM
thats 's skinnier than mary-kate olsen
and wasn't the razr's battery in the back, under the keypad, or do my eyes decieve me?
JOHN P. @ Jul 23rd 2006 3:58PM
U have to hate the freaking red bars on the top and botton of verizon phone. verizon UI is the worse interface ever. Who came up with that.
BP @ Jul 23rd 2006 3:58PM
Anybody have reliable info on a release date for Verizon?
Somebody @ Jul 23rd 2006 4:06PM
maybe its pronounced Crazier
Devin @ Jul 23rd 2006 4:17PM
Looking at it, it's only a millimeter or two wider than the iPOD Nano! That's a lot smaller than i expected.
Googly Moogly @ Jul 23rd 2006 4:59PM
Um...if it's infact called the KRZR, it would be pronounced "Krazor"...Duh.
Amsterman @ Jul 23rd 2006 5:13PM
When normal people see it, they'll think it's just a RAZR, too noob to realize what it is.
mbhatia01 @ Jul 23rd 2006 5:26PM
mabye its pronouced K-Razor, but saying that, i think motorola needs to drop the four letter namings (RAZR, SLVR, PEBL, KRZR, ROKR, Etc.) mabye they should follow apple and give every thing a defined name that people know how to pronouce
its just a thought, but somehow, this phone really dosnt look all that amazing. the metal exterior looks like it could pick up fingerprints pretty easy, the keypads are kinda hard to use (trust me, ive had both razr and slvr), and othr than that, the phone itself seems like its too small to be cofortable. it looks kinda like the size of the nanos width and thickness, but the nano feels small in most peoples hands, kinda makes the fone feel cheap in your hands
Lastly, the big difference in the design of the phone is that the extra width that the original razr had went into the bottom thing, making the phone narrower, but longer at the same time. Now, i dunno, but i found the razr itself to be fairly uncofortable to use, and this one is even narrower, which means its probably gonna be even more uncomfortable to use
solis @ Jul 23rd 2006 5:58PM
Having used a RAZR V3 and now onto a V3i, I was put off the Canary/K1/KRZR at first, the keypad was too boring looking and it looked huge. But these pictures put things into perspective, I'm thinking this new iteration will probably up the appeal with females and probably lose some with males. I don't know about you, but I find the current RAZR to be very comfortable, good sized keys (unlike many a Sony Ericsson) and I like a handset that fills my hand. The current RAZR is thin, but it is wide and so fills my hand adequately- most guys seem to like a phone that fills the hand, it feels solid. Also, the current RAZR is masculine in terms of design, no soft curves or glossy nonsense. The ladies, the same ones who got weak in the knees for the pink RAZR, will probably like this new super slim and super narrow, shiny design, very reminiscent of the iPod nano. The screen seems to be smaller and I once again dont like the boring key design, the phone looks cheaper overall on the inside. It's Moto Capri for me all the way when I make my next purchase...
Jason @ Jul 23rd 2006 6:42PM
It kind of looks like a tampon.
Frank @ Jul 23rd 2006 6:45PM
I was under the impression that "KRZR" stood for "Cruiser." I don't know where I got that from, prolly just made it up.
Anyway, this is sweet, i figured we VZW folks would have to wait a long, long time for it to show up on CDMA.
blackout @ Jul 23rd 2006 7:08PM
@ above.
get an eye test.
Joh @ Jul 23rd 2006 7:22PM
Thats becuase not only can it display web, play mp3's,personal movies, display pics, but it also serves a tampon. Not just any tampon, when motorola makes a tampon you can be sure it will be sleek and shiny?
Jonathan Graft @ Jul 23rd 2006 7:24PM
I'm hoping it comes out (Verizon's version) right before christmas because that is when I get a new phone! :-)
Does any site have specs on this phone? Like, size dimensions, if it plays MP3s, etc.?
deecee @ Jul 23rd 2006 7:33PM
It peobably is crazier or KRa-Zee-eR as in it's crazy how thin and small it is compared to the RAZR.
Nick @ Jul 23rd 2006 7:42PM
This looks like it could be Motorola's new flagship phone, as it is the first RAZR variant they have released in a while whichs changes more then just color. I am kind of surprised that they are actually releasing it on Verizon first, usually Motorola debuts their more high-end phones on GSM networks like Cingular. I like the new form factor, but it seems like it will be a bit awkward to hold as the phone has been elongated even more since the original. The keypad especially looks nicer, the keys look better placed while retaining their wide surface area.
And to "Amsterman": The original RAZR is known in pretty much ever part of the U.S. and this new version is certaininly different; noticeably different, then the V3 and V3c. And "n00b" is not spelled "noob," one of the most n00b-like things I have ever heard.
iownyou14 @ Jul 23rd 2006 8:09PM
Will there be a GSM version???
Morty Salt @ Jul 23rd 2006 8:52PM
I really am sick of these thin phones. I want a phone I can grip with my hands. I hate holding these up with my two little fingers. Why do they even make phones with keypads anymore, this is stupid. I should be able to just input everyones phone number from my computer into a bluetooth device like an ipod and just slip it into my pocket. All, functions are voice activated if I needed to take it out of my pocket and access some info then it would have an ipodesque click wheel. you look like a retard holding these phones now. Apple should just integrated everthing into the ipod...touchpads and keypads with numbers are...SO LAST CENTURY!!!!
joey lang @ Jul 23rd 2006 9:33PM
LOVE IT!!!!!!
Unfortunatly, my v3i is coming in wednesday, o well, I LOVE THAT ONE TOO........I agree, too narrow for as tall as it is, but god damn, how do they fit all this sh!t in a device this small.....o well, i will never use verizons UI.....maybe if cingular releases it in september ike it is supposed too.................
CJ @ Jul 23rd 2006 9:58PM
Couldn't they have done something about the size of the external screen? Remember the huge useless black border on the RAZR? They probably just got rid of that but kept the undersized external screen the same undersized size. It's not big enough to display all the important info (ringer state, alarm status, etc).
AC @ Jul 23rd 2006 10:07PM
Soon we'll be having RAZR variants the size of the one in zoolander.
matt @ Jul 23rd 2006 10:15PM
i could have sworn i say one of these being used on that Psych show. alas, another shameless product plug on tv.
Dustin @ Jul 23rd 2006 11:11PM
This phone is kickin... Lovin the new Modern look of a Retro series...
Startac = RAZR
V3620 = KRZR
I will for sure be gettin this... On the Cingular Network due to Eastern KY extremely crappy contracts on wireless...
dustin
Brad @ Jul 23rd 2006 11:18PM
Looks like total junk. Definitely looks cheaper than the RAZR, and makes it a whole lot less appealing. Oh well. Doesn't surprise me that Moto would screw up a decent product.
jogia @ Jul 23rd 2006 11:45PM
Evolution, not revolution.... Yes this K-RZR does look smaller. But it doesnt really look much different than the current RAZR. The original RAZR was definetely a leap in design. This one, not so much.
If they can make this phone a windows mobile smart phone, now that would take it to a new level.
dave @ Jul 23rd 2006 11:58PM
i wonder if vzw will be hobbling this version of the razr like they have all the other versions they have sold. they block the ability to play your own ringtones and any other number of features that vzw somehow thinks are unnecessary. i recently read that there is a class-action suit brewing against vzw because of the hinderances and blocks that they put on these phones. if you have the exact same phone from cingular it will do more then the one from vzw. you would think that vzw would leave well enough alone so that people wouldn't switch to another provider just to get the same phone with all the features still functioning.
Luke @ Jul 24th 2006 4:05AM
OMFG looks like they still haven't fixed that problem i get with the 'button rubber lines' imprinting on the screen. motorolla sure has a lot riding on this. hopefully its more dust proof than the old one. mine has dust in the screen, mic, speaker, everywhere. and no way to get it out! might be worth the money tho.
shrimpster44 @ Jul 24th 2006 6:06AM
it looks nice but i cant see anything that would make it better than the current razr and why wouldnt it be pernounced like cruiser, but with a k?
David @ Jul 24th 2006 8:13AM
I'm in love. I wish VZW would allow MP3's, and not force you to convert to WMA (hasn't anyone learned anything from Sony?), nooo Mac support for Vcast Music ;-
Here's hoping this RAZR is released soon. A GSM version may drop around the same time considering the recent FCC filing was for that version.
Dan @ Jul 24th 2006 8:57AM
Can we see some side by side pics with the RAZR? Anyone know how long the battery lasts compared to the new V3m?
David @ Jul 24th 2006 9:05AM
"Cute & Adorable Gadgets" has a pic side by side with a RAZR V3i (last pic): http://gadgets.elliottback.com/2006/06/15/motorola-canaray/
Jason @ Jul 24th 2006 9:37AM
I still prefer my Treo 650...I never found the current RAZR comfortable to use at all. It never rested comfortably on my ear. Plus the battery life is crap. Motorola never figured out how to make a decent battery on ANY of their phones. And don't even get me started about the UI.
jason @ Jul 24th 2006 10:16AM
looks like another phone headed down the wrong path from Motorola
gasp @ Jul 24th 2006 11:20AM
the distance between the softkeys and the screen is too far-they lose that 'connection'. they should've made the hinge smaller...
Grace @ Jul 24th 2006 12:32PM
Looks like the Samsung A900.
David F @ Jul 24th 2006 3:16PM
The screen area on this CDMA unit looks smaller than on the GSM version (previously pictured in EnMo).
john @ Jul 24th 2006 4:08PM
30. I'm in love. I wish VZW would allow MP3's, and not force you to convert to WMA (hasn't anyone learned anything from Sony?), nooo Mac support for Vcast Music ;-
its actually extremely easy to enable mp3 playback with verizon phones through the service menu.
-_- @ Jul 24th 2006 5:03PM
is it just me, or does the k1/k1c lose MAJOR screen real estate when in comparison with the v3/v3i/v3c/v3m? i mean, sure, it's probably got a better resolution, but i'd rather have a larger screen 'cause it's easier to see stuff.
and what about the dimmension shrinkage? i mean, this phone went from supermodel-skinny to anorexic-freak show.
madmaxmedia @ Jul 24th 2006 5:39PM

No, that's the new TMPN phone from Motorola-

GSM, will be @ Jul 24th 2006 8:19PM
Yes, there will definitely be a GSM version of this phone. I actually saw the hardware GSM engineers work on the GSM version of the phone. So, don't worry GSM fans, it will be there. I myself will not.
Ginux @ Jul 25th 2006 11:16AM

@ #44
The LG has a 1.3 mp camera and looks like a sassed up rip off of the original RAZR with gimmick touch keys, look at the hinge for god's sake! Copy and Paste! Plus, I've used the KG800 Chocolate phone- crappy build nowhere near Moto. It's ironic that the LG you speak of looks more like the old RAZR than the KRZR does! The KRZR beats the LG hands down featurewise. I hate the look of the LG keypad too, but the CHROME is undeniably good-looking- the LG is the aesthetic choice, KRZR is build, much better new UI, and features rolled into one sexy package.
So, to put it in your terms: Screw LG, wait until the KRZR and RIZR hit the market.
