UTStarcom joins the slim candybar game
If you're into the form factor, you don't need Bluetooth, and you're looking to save some coin, you might turn your attention to the FCC's deets on UTStarcom's GPRS1226 (or UT1200, depending on what documentation you're reading). Like the SLVR it loosely mimics, the microSD-equipped GPRS1226 emphasizes its music playback capabilities, even offering a dedicated music player button on its side. GSM 850 and 1900 support mean this thing is likely targeted at the North American market; we're not sure which carrier would offer it, but given its meager spec sheet, we're guessing you could walk away with it nearly free on contract.

geez... y'know, when will people figure out that these slim phones may be cool and all, but can break really easy. especially if the person who wants to break your anorexic phone in half happens to hate everything about you, and wants to remove you from the world with one quick flip of the wrist. if anyone has a video or a seen a video of one of these pieces of crap being split in half, send it at me. people should wake up and realize that if you are really serious about your phone, you won't buy one on the premise that it's super-skinny; you'll buy the phone that best compliments the features you're looking for. and, if one of these stick phones happens to meet the list and you like it, go ahead and buy it. but just make sure you're ready to part with it if something bad happens.
i mean, c'mon, this is the most unoriginal phone that isn't a chinese rip-off of another phone. and i get where the whole skinny thing comes in in a flip or slide phone, 'cause it's hard to cram all the phone's guts in a case no wider than the one used to hold the display and camera, but slim candybar phones are much easier to make (and break).
whatever. if you want to pay more for a "slim" candybar pos, be my guest.
note: the razrs and blades don't fall in this category; they're flip phones. they actually take know-how to design.
