Palm announces WM5-powered Treo for Vodafone
So Palm has officially announced one of those three Treos we were promised at the end of last year, and just as we expected, this Windows Mobile 5 AKU2-powered model will be sold exclusively overseas. Unfortunately the company neglected to include a detailed spec sheet in its press release -- more information will be available closer to the as-yet-unspecified launch date -- so all we really know at this point is that it's destined for Vodafone's 3G UMTS network in several European countries. Also unclear is how this model relates to other upcoming Treos we've seen under such codenames as Hollywood, Lowrider, Nitro, and Lennon -- we sure wish Palm would be a little more forthcoming with its product roadmaps. As usual, though, you can always count on us to bring you every little bit of Treo news we get our hands on, even if Palm and friends don't give us much help putting it in context.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Is this going to be a Pocket PC or smartphone as they claim?
Jake @ Jul 13th 2006 12:50PM
It'll definitely be the Pocket PC variant of WM5. You won't see Palm release anything with the Smartphone variant anytime soon.

#3: The irony is that every Palm smartphone so far has bombed in Europe. The Treo 650 has been heavily advertised in London and yet the only one I've seen was being used by an American at the airport.
Perhaps this Vodafone tie-up will change things but the European market is already saturated with smartphones.

Quit being a nationalistic jerk Korey. Note to the world. We aren't all as idiotic as Korey!

The press release didn't say this is an exclusive overseas model, only that Vodaphone will be selling it "first". Which might only mean first *in those countries*.
This is apparently the same phone also known as Hollywood or Lennon.
Palm promised four Treos in 2006. There are enough official hints and unofficial leaks to put together the whole roadmap:
1. 700w
2. 700p
3. Hollywood/Lennon
4. Lowrider/Nitro
#3 is basically the 700w for GSM/UMTS in a somewhat different case (no antenna stub, maybe a bit thinner/lighter).
#4 is basically the 700p for GSM/EDGE in the same case as #3.
