Palm "Lennon" and "Nitro" in the flesh?
Alright, dear readers, proceed with caution. It's with a healthy dose of skepticism that we present to you some slightly clearer pictures (allegedly straight off Cingular's site) of Palm's "Lennon" and "Nitro" GSM devices that our resident rumor MC, The Boy Genius, scooped for us not long ago. Now, we'll plainly admit that these look pretty much like what we'd expect them to look like -- but these would also be fairly trivial 'Shops to throw together based off the 700w and 700p. Either way, if Palm's track record is any indication, we can look forward to plenty more leaked shots in the near future to keep us occupied before (hopefully) a late-2006 release.

if you follow the link, there's a lot of discussion about photoshop. i'm thinking "duh!" the "lennon" on the left looks like a 700w with a d-pad invert and a chopped-off antenna; the "nitro" looks like a copy of the lennon with a color change and obviously vague buttons. c'mon, there's not even logos on them!

I'm 80% sure it's a Photoshop. The one on the right has a Windows key and a "Find" magnifying glass key. The "Find" key is only present on the 600/650/700p. On the 700w, it's just a dot key.

@ #5 (Jake), that is not a find key. that is the OK button that is present on all WM5 smartphones (using that term loosly)
i can see where people would think these were 'shopped, but i'm not passing judgement either way because i know real shots will leak out from somebody (palm internal or otherwise) in a month or 2 here, so just be patient everybody.

a lot of discussion about photoshop? The majority of the members there believe it's not. Its not the first indication of this either:
1. A guy on treocentral, WAY before any pictures are shown, says a windows mobile antennaless treo is coming to cingular.
2. http://blog.treonauts.com/2006/04/first_real_treo.html
First Leaked shots[allegedly]. These appear very legit by the way.
3. Boy genius report. I don't know how can someone STILL question Boy Genius' at this point. He had a leaked document saying the lennon was coming to cingular.
4. Now this, found by a guy changing the addresses on cingular's website.
How can you STILLL doubt this?

Definitely looks like a magnifying glass to me. I'm talking about the one that's two keys over to the left from the space bar.

Real or not, you can forget about the Palm version being smaller, as misinterpreted in the above photo. It's clear that these are two different image resolutions of the same device (different OS variants) sitting side by side. So anyone out there dumb enough to believe that having PalmOS is ROM somehow magically shaves off 25% of the bulk are sadly mistaken. Sorry, but the Nitro will be identical to the Lennon.

gosh, an interesting phenomena, new product hoaxing using photoshop, i call it a 'phoaux' (photoshop hoax) - or possible 'phoaux' --- memetic!
Kevin @ Jul 6th 2006 11:09AM
If these are coming out for cingular, why do the have the verizon logo on them? hmmmmm
Ryan @ Jul 6th 2006 12:48PM
why are the Palm logos on opposite sides of the two devices?
why does the Palm OS version not have End and Send keys?

Those things are freakin' ugly. Don't you think it's time for Palm to do a refresh of it's Treo line. Motorola and Nokia have both designed a qwerty keyboard that looks ten times better than the Treo and they will soon be able to match the functionality when Smartphones go mainstream sooner than later. Palm put the Treo on a Subway diet and suck up the gut.

@kevin #11 ...
what are you talking about i see no verizon logo on these phones.
