FCC lets ic502 out of the bag, first iDEN / CDMA phone
Nextelites saving your pennies for the i880, hold up just a minute. Deets are emerging on the ic502, and while it's not the highest-end phone around, you could be the first kid on your block packin' hybrid iDEN / CDMA heat. As usual, the FCC has done the honors, releasing the user's manual where we see that the ruggedized flip will support CDMA on the 1900 band only, iDEN on 800, and old-skool walkie-talkie on ISM 900; handoff between networks is not supported. Otherwise, not much to talk about -- no Bluetooth, no camera. On second thought, that i880 is looking pretty sweet, ain't it?

I activated one today (11-1-06) and no it does not have a camera, or bluetooth. What it does have is great call clarity, & better signal.
Anyone thinking of jumping ship with Nextel needs to try this phone out. There are other releases due out Q3 2007 with more bells and whistles.

Just activated the new hybrid is502 and what a great phone. I actually was able to use the phone at my home, where nextel service is very poor. I was ready to dump Nextel until this phone came along. I gave it one more chance, and what a difference. Glad I held out another week!

when does it come out, for the public use not just select stores?

Went to Nextel store to check the ic502 out and do comparison shopping. All of the sales reps were clueless as to what the phone could or could not do. They did not know if it was bluetooth,or GPS Ready. Pretty basic info. I walked out keeping my i560.

I too was ready to leave Nextel ater 8 years of their service, then came the hybrid!! Wow, finally I hardly ever drop calls and the dirct conect seems to even drop less calls.(even though they say that shouldn't chage.) Theservice in my opinion is better than Verison and Cingular.
