Sanyo's kid-safe SCP-2400 for Sprint

When we were young'uns, we walked eight miles to grade school in waist-deep snow, and if we had to get in touch with our folks, we did it the old fashioned way: with a quarter and a pay phone. And we liked it. Times are changing, though, and virtually every carrier has come to the table with a kid-friendly service, device, or both. This time it's Sanyo's turn, bringing the SCP-2400 in five tasty colors with an integrated parental control feature. The software allows parents to enter in a list of phone numbers the user is allowed to call and / or receive calls from, restrict data usage, and hopefully turn off texting to prevent the ridiculously early onset of RSI. The SCP-2400 drops into the weary hands of parents with excessive phone bills in early July for $29.99 on contract after rebates.

They may be advertising this feature now, but this has existed in Sprint phones for at least a couple of years now. It amazes me when old existing products receive treatment as if there is something new and original about them. Why cant Sanyo come up with something interesting to actually mention about their phones, rather than announcing that "it too will be including one of its now standard features"

I've been looking all over for information on this phone but couldn't find anything. The parental restrictions certainly are nothing new. Every Sanyo Phone going back a couple years had these features, they just weren't very user friendly.

Just go to the Security menu, enter in your password (change your password too) and set whatever restrictions you want.

The SCP-200 was the ultimate in kid friendly phones. No Camera to rack up high bills with photo messaging...it had a speakerphone and text messaging, was available in different colors, and best of all didn't have Vision, so there was no $270 bill for downloading ringers and wallpaper.

Regardless, looks a lot like a camera-less 3100. And I like the 3100's design (don't know why tho)

I find the 3100 ugly and the 2400 attractive. For a basic phone with speakerphone, it looks great. I've always liked Sanyos - I loved my 8300 - and if I needed a basic non-camera phone, this would be the one I'd get.
