The Boy Genius Report: Motorola's unnamed V3x-alike
The Boy Genius has hooked Engadget Mobile up with the latest exclusive hotness: an unnamed Motorola prototype (one that we're hoping does not feature M-Track) obviously very closely resembling the V3x made its way into our mitts. This version, however, uses 850/1900MHz UTMS and EDGE bands, which would only imply it's headed for the States. Its main shooter is your usual two megapixel sensor, the second being a 0.3 megapixel videoconferencing camera. But the software is where this thing really shines, though; it blows every other Moto out of the water. Press the power button and in less than five seconds the device is fully booted -- the rest of the interface feels just as responsive. It also sports A2DP and stereo speakers, 64MB of internal memory, and a MicroSD slot. Our info implies this thing, whatever it's called, could see a Q3/Q4 release on you-know-who (most probably right before the holidays). Click on for some more snaps.

Why is there no HSDPA? Errr... and the same crap Synergy UI. This thing better have the JUIX UI and some HSDPA love by the time it is released.

Cingular will be lucky to get the v3i out in mid July 2006, after it was released by Motorola in Novermber 2005. Two-tone? Yuck.

Considering it's going to take a phone like this to make people give a flying crap about Cingular's 3G services, I'm pretty sure there will be hell to pay if they can't get it out before Thanksgiving.
All those early adopters with v3s are coming up on the end of their contract, so a v3 with a jacked-up feature set is probably needed to keep them from churning.

I am not suprised that motorola is making another phone that looks like the razr. The razr is horrible, and breaks easily. Would be nice if they could come up with a new design for once. But, I guess if the design works then run with it and dont look back.

aside from the baby-puke green el backlights and the nasty two-tone scheme, this phone is awright. it doesn't look large and bulky like the v3x, but still manages to cram a similar feature set in. maybe like a canary on steroids; its fugly, but kicks butt (whereas the canary looked okay, but had a feature set similar to my v551). kudos to motorola for finally ditching the crappy '80s icons in their menus.
p.s.: my v551 boots up in five seconds; the cingular intro animation crap takes four more.

You guys cant decide on what to complain about- the software or the looks and now that one gets fixed (the software) you start complaining about the looks. Quite Frankly this phone is hot and things could change before the release but dont just go around looking for something to complain about

I like it. Some of the gripes above are rather whiney. We have, in my immediate family, six RAZRs. None has broken. Far more reliable than Siemens or LG, and we like them better than our Nokias or S-Es.
What this new RAZR-clone brings to the table is speed and storage. Why do you care? Because J2ME is important - it's how you add YOUR choice of applications, games, etc. I wrote a password manager that syncs to the PC over the internet for my RAZR, which runs a bit slow but should scream on this new phone.

Why do they have to use these flat keypads. There is no tactile feel, so it's harder to dial while not looking at it.

I know someone that has that phone, like 5 of them. He knows people at moto office in our state. He sold them at school for 200 USDs a phone. I see people at my school useing them as mp3s. I think they work with nextel service. that or some kids have cingular. Most people use nextel at my school. I can submit some pics in a few months when i am back in school. I almost bought one for my self. But na, ill wait for offical relase. Its like the V3x, which i saw at an mobile stand in europe this summer, the cam is very nice i think, its a bit bigger than the V3. :) ill send pics, if it does not come out by the time i get back to school. Note: If i can find these people.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but this isnt a prototype. Motorola and israeli engineers built this phone one month after the launch of the razr. On top of that it has been in europe for over a year now. One of my friends has this phone. He spent top dollar. I just think he was a little stupid to purchase it because no one else has it. So... who will he vid confrence with?

Yea, i did see the phone at an orange store in israel. "which is what i ment by europe in my last post" I just came back from there a few weeks ago, the "prototype" my friend has, is the U.S verson of the V3x i saw in israel. Again, i could get pics, if i can find the people that have the phones. I think it was like 250 shekels with a contract, and like 800 shekels without. I wanted to buy it, but then again, GSM, CDMA. I am not sure with orange is.

#24's right, it's definitely a V3x-alike look at the V3x and this side by side, definitely not the same phone (I've had hands-on experience with the blue, black and pink V3x's). On the V3x's launch I heard that the nVidia 4200 graphics chip only enchanced photography due to a shortage on time with the Moto engineers, apparently the V3x was to be short-lived and its successor would use the nVidia chip to enhance everything fromm icons to skins. I believe this is that successor. The keys (which have WHITE not green light- trust me), the camera location and looks, the logos all look different compared to the V3x.
I'm getting either this or the Capri to replace my V3i this Christmas!

Everyone should stop crying.... seriously this phone is beautiful the UI of all motorola phones is as easy as can be and if you can't figure it out then you seriously need help. Compared to the Sony UI this is prolly the easiest thing ever to understand. Plus none of you have this phone to say it sucks. Half of you are dumber than shit and think this is a V3x when its obviously not ever close to the same as a V3x and its obviously the Motorazr MAXX.... god some people are effing dumb
