The Boy Genius Report: Canary is KRZR, getting launched September

Well, well, well, Moto had to name the Canary something, didn't they? Looks like it's gonna go by the KRZR (what, now they don't even do vowels?), and we should see it launched in the September / October timeframe -- with A2DP support no less (not unlike the Capri). Stay tuned for more Cingular leakage by way of the Boy Genius!

i effing love The Boy Genius
Chris @ Jun 27th 2006 5:08PM
Does that name make sense to anyone? How do you pronounce it? SLVR doesn't have any vowels either. I'm so confused.
BONOBOHO @ Jun 27th 2006 5:17PM
103.7 KRZR (fresno, ca) was the awesomest radio station ever before ClearChannel bought them. Now its a crappy radio station that plays rock and a meh-inspiring moto.

I can only hope they change the color from blue to anything else on the KRZR before it is launched. It would look so hot in black :) . I'm hoping blue is just a prototype color.
Dan @ Jun 27th 2006 5:21PM
Boy genius. You are a super hero.

I think this is a bogus leak.. The new Windows Mobile Treo for GSM is coming out next month. Check it out: http://stockoperator.livejournal.com/

SLVR isn't that hard, its either Silver or Sliver. But KRZR, Crazier, that doesn't sound right. Krazer, WTF is that.ANd like Krazer, thats not even real. This is either fake, or Moto is doing a worse jobe than Wii (I mean Nintendo , not US)
SL @ Jun 27th 2006 6:45PM
How could Cingular get this phone so quick? It hasn't even been released in the Europe/Asia markets other than the prototype. It doesn't add up.

You say RAZaR
I say RAZeR
You say SiLVeR
I say SLiVeR
You say, uh, KRuZeR? KRaZeR? Kruschev? KRiZoR? K-RAZR?
What have you forsaken me MOTO?
*shatters shift and caps lock keys*
Let's call the whole thing off. My vote is for the CNRY (you know, CaNaRY... not CaNneRY, or CoNRoY. But the Sean CNRY edition would be badass. "HELLO, MOTO, AND WELCOME TO THE ROCK!")

KRZR
CDMA will be out wayy sooner than u'd expect
out on verizon by september
K1c
=P
Joshi @ Jun 27th 2006 9:50PM
RAZR, ROKR, PEBL, TXTR...those are all pretty easy to figure out. SLVR is a little trickier - some people want to say "Silver" - but still pretty self-explanitory.
KRZR? What the heck?
I'm guessing it's "Cruiser," although I'm not sure why Moto would name a phone that. It's also the first time Moto will have actually changed letter in their 4LTR names (C -> K, S -> Z).
Maybe I'm wrong - the first thing I thought was "Crazier," but that makes even less sense.
I think our Boy Genius is wrong here. Unless someone else can explain to me what it means, "KRZR" simply breaks to many of Moto's naming rules (and yes, they do have naming rules).

@ #10
I highly doubt that verizon would be getting it first since a GSM market covers more people world wide.
@ #6
In some of your links that you have posted above, a lot of the information is no longer true, the primary one being that they new treos that are coming out will not be the "hollywood" or the "lowrider".
Will @ Jun 28th 2006 12:57AM
#12 It may be true that it might come to a CDMA network first, Verizon has it under the model name of K1c, its list of qualified Bluetooth profiles has been out for quite a while. The CDMA verison is already in testing for Verizon for a month now.
Drsilverworm @ Jun 28th 2006 12:49PM

"Kruschev?"
teo @ Jun 29th 2006 5:58PM
awesome!
i love the name KRZR it's so fierce. sounds like Crazer, something that creates a craze. it's also cool because it recalls RAZR. you could call it RZR2 but that would be boring. CNRY is way not fierce enough, it needs to evoke thinness, speed and dynamism.
very interesting on the vz front, maybe they finally realized it was bullsh*t they wait years after gsm providers to release comparable phones. just hope they don't market it as k1c, how boring :/

KRZR. huh... okay... sure...
here's a new one for motorola: WTF?
ooh! and for the next phones, how about LOL!, ROFL, and TTFL.
as in: the design of the phone made me Laugh Out Loud, then trying to figure out the phone's name produced some hilarious ideas that had me Rolling On the Floor Laughing, and then I said f*** this and waved Ta-Ta Forever, Losers to motorola and their God-forsaken naming department. howzabout a mandatory round of drug testing before motorola names another phone, or maybe we should just call it by the model number: v... v... uh... well, let's just call it a v4.
after all, the v400 was a (mediocre) improvement on the v300, so i guess this would work.
i'm holding out for the capri- wait, i'm sorry, the CPRI. now pardon me while i remove the shift keys and caps lock key from my keyboard and melt them in the toaster oven.
pistolpete @ Jul 21st 2006 6:23PM
yo, #15...
i'm sure you were refering to metaphysics when you chose the word "dynamism" in your, um, fierce post. perhaps evoking some more of that speed will assist you in gaining the energy required to look up those big words in a dictionary.
when you're done, pass it to moto. they're obviously in dire need of one, as well.
Jane @ Jul 28th 2006 1:04PM
duhhh, if the RAZR is pronounced razor.. then the KRZR is KRaZeR. as in you craze it. razor with a k. krazor.
Ray @ Jul 29th 2006 8:43PM
dude i cant wait :]] my mom said i can get when it comes out :) man boy genius you tottaly narly!
dave @ Sep 2nd 2006 11:14PM
uhmm KRZR is just a pointless name for the canary. and i love how they renamed the capri RIZR, and it makes sense because it slides up. get with it people.
Im sticking with my A900 until more thin phones have cameras with a flash on them and external media controls, which out of all ultra thin clamshells i can think of, only A900 and R MAXX have, and R MAXX isnt CDMA(i get free sprint service, add a line on a SERO family plan is soooooo worth it.)
but if the k1m has a flash on the camera, i'll trade in merely for the microSD slot and because the m610 is fugly.
fuboy @ Sep 27th 2006 1:42AM
Any update on the cingular KRZR launch dates? It's nearly October, so looks like they won't make September. Should we expect early or late Oct, or has it slid even more?
