FCC smiles upon Samsung SGH-D900, world's thinnest slider
If the true measure of a company was the thickness of its products, Samsung would have a lock on the title. Besides the "world's thinnest phone" -- the SGH-X820 that you can virtually hide by turning it on its side -- our South Korean friends are rocking the "world's thinnest slider" as well in the SGH-D900. Apparently, the FCC is cool with that, as they've just given the thumbs-up for the D900 stateside. The phone manages to pack in some reasonable specs despite its size, bringing a QVGA display, 3.13 megapixel camera, A2DP, 80MB flash, and MicroSD expansion to the table. Most importantly for our US readers, this is a quad-band EDGE phone, meaning there might be some actual weight to the FCC grant for a change of pace.

Hi ... Can you tell me where I can order this phone from overseas at this point? Ervin wrote in message #3 that he has these in store.)
One other question. I was going to buy the D600 because of the speaker phone which I have heard is quite good. I use the speaker phone quite often and need a good one. Is the D900 speaker phone as good or better than the D600? I didn't notice the specs on the audio for the D900.
Thanks!

Ervin, where are you? I can't find this phone anywhere, most stores haven't even heard of it...
Anyone have information on where or when this phone will be available? I'm in Austin Texas.
Thanks...

Does anyone know if the camera has autofocus or a flash? Comparison to Nokia's N73 or N80?
Stonelove @ Aug 22nd 2006 1:24PM
I got the d900 from yesterday. It's all that and then some, pretty much everything you'd expect in a phone. There are two major issues though, 1st one is the call volume SUCKS! I can barely make out the other parties voice above a whisper, and this is with the call volume set all the way to max. The external speaker doesn't really help either. It does sound better when you use the attached headset but who wants to be restricted to wearing a headset 24/7 whenever you want to make or receive a call?
2nd issue is for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to add or move files to the 1GB memory card I added to the phone. The phone sees it ok too.
Anyway the call volume issue is something i cannot live with, and unfortunately I'm going to have to get rid of this one and go with a nokia (aaarrrrggghh).

With regards to the volume problem mentioned above, I encountered the same issue until I realized that the protective static plastic on the phone's screen is covering the speakers as well. One quick yank of the covering and the sound could be heard in all it's 3D glory (a true 'duh' moment for yours truly). As for moving files, simply select a file to move, select Options>Move to>Memory card>. From there, you have the option to Move All or individually by just checking on the file to move and them select the "Move" option (lower left side). Hope this helps and doens't deter people from getting this superb phone.

I have to say, this phone is brilliant.I dont know what people are saying about this phones sound, and for gods sake, read the manual!! I admit, I was a bit disappointed at the sound/volume at first, but then I found a code to make the sound louder. Key in *#8999*8378#. Then select H/W test, then Audio settings, Select IIS NORMAL, and press Ear Gain To 15. Default is 13. And if you are having trouble with memory cards, 2gig cards are not accepted, only 1gig and under. And you have to download a file to the phone before you move it to the card. Everything should be in the manual, but if you are having trouble again, email me at dynamite_drummer_wizkid@hotmail.com The phone is brilliant!! You should get it.
PS: The phone does not like to be dropped, and the screen gets scratched easily, so keep the screen protector on, or buy some spares.
Hope this helps!!

Do you know where I can purchase a screen protector for the SGH D900? Do you know the internet setting for this phone with ATT Wireless?
Thanks

So are you saying that you can't have items on a memory card already and use them on the phone? Like, I have a 1g card in my current phone, and it stores all of my ringtones and pictures, etc. So can I use all of those in this phone?
Henri @ Dec 30th 2006 3:55PM
Yes, this phone has a beautiful camera, autofocus and flash, mp3, video, and lots of games. Only thing i cant figure out is how to download vidoes with the cd they give you to the phone.
