LG VX8300 drops on Verizon
The replacement for one of Verizon's first EV-DO V CAST phones, the VX8100, the VX8300 trades a MiniSD slot for MicroSD and adds Verizon's notoriously sketchy flavor of Bluetooth (although DUN is officially supported, so maybe we're okay here). That's about it -- the camera remains the same at 1.3 megapixels, and the VX8100's silver case is traded for a more subdued black. Available immediately for $99 with contract.

Someone finaly put it all together in one phone for a reasonable price... wow. Now if I can live with the verizon os.. maby I'll buy it
Andrew Rahimi @ May 29th 2006 6:56PM
I believe that this phone includes the Bluetooth A2DP profile for wireless stereo headphones (not quite sure on that) which would make it the first verizon consumer phone to do so. The only problem here is the Verizon UI.

Hey Chris, don't you think that headline is a litte misleading?
Chris Ziegler @ May 30th 2006 10:28AM
Josh, I see what you're saying. I've updated the headline.

Link is dead. Gah! I'm just hoping they've improved the shutter delay that the 8100 had...Anyone seen a hands on review of the 8300?
aine @ May 31st 2006 3:00PM
Chris, where did you get the info, "available immediately for $99 with contract". It's not on the vzw website that I can see. I called my local vzw store and they have no idea when they will be getting that phone, they said.
Chris Ziegler @ May 31st 2006 4:19PM
aine - I'm still able to see the VX8300 on Verizon's site. In fact, it looks like they now have a $50 online rebate, bringing the total to $49.
Zzed @ Jun 2nd 2006 3:15PM
Hmm...Post the link you're using and I'll believe you. Otherwise, I can only assume you're accidentally looking at the info for the 8100...
Zzed @ Jun 2nd 2006 4:03PM
Ok, so Chris may not be wrong after all. I think the issue is dependent on what ZIP code you put into the website. Verizon is rolling it out slowly, so only a few zip codes can see the phone available. Sorry for accusing you of lying, Chris :)

I have one and its pretty solid, good features, fast animating, minimal shutter lag, althouhg the camera is a tad cumbersome to access and the micro SD cards are not as cheap as the mini SD's were
Andrew Ayala @ Jun 6th 2006 10:14AM
is it possible to read texts on the outside of the phone like its prior LG phone, the blue outside one
Barbara @ Jun 6th 2006 11:52PM
Can anyone comment on how clear the other person sounds to you using this phone? I'm trading in an LG 5200 because everyone sounds muffled to me. This phone looks great, but I'm a little shy of going with another LG. Thanks

LG-VX8300, just got my hands on one today, for all those that want to buy it. Here's a heads up. Its not really an upgrade. The resolution on the outside display appears to be lower than the 8100, the same goes for the inside display, which is snappier and just as bright, but has jagged edges which the 8100 didnt have. It looks like they added a few features which the 8100 didn't have, and made it slimmer at the cost of some of the 8100's finer points. Just an opinion though. I'm waiting for the upgrade to the E815.

I just got the motorola E815, but I'm within my first 15 days. Wondering if I should try this puppy out? One thing that's great about the E815 is that you can customize the home keys (up, down, left, and right arrow keys) for whatever you want. Plus, you can even change the left and right soft keys. One thing missing is a notepad to jot down, well, notes! Anyone know how the VX8300 compares to these "features"?
Erasure25 @ Jun 8th 2006 5:47PM
Does anyone know if the Sony Ericsson HBH-DS970 A2DP Bluetooth stereo headphone are compatible with the 8300?
Scott @ Jun 9th 2006 6:39PM
Brand new cell phone owner with a few Q's. Just ordered service with the VX8300 - Before I confirm & they ship the phone should I reconsider and either get the VX8100 or E815?? Haven't seen the VX8300 in any store so I'm going out on a limb. What do the micro SD's run and could someone compare / contrast these phones for me. Also what is the Bluetooth issues with these VX phones. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated...

Hello I am considering purchasing the LGVX8300 which is the upgraded version of the LGVX8100. I visited a verizon store and spoke with a sale representative they informed me that this phone recently came out and at one store they were actually sold out of LGVX8300 and had a waiting list for this phone. I recently purchase the E815 but return the phone within the 15 days due to some technical difficulties that I was having with the phone such as static in the phone and the break up in calls. I was told that the 3815 was suppose to be a great phone due to the atenna.
Jim Harris @ Jun 25th 2006 3:05PM
The VX8300 has 5 customizable keys - the UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT arrows and the [PLAY] key. There is a notepad in the Settings & Tools [Tools] menu. The micro SD cards are about 30% more then the mini SD. The camera takes a decent picture. The sound isn't bad coming from the stereo speakers on either side of the hinge. Haven't played with Bluetooth yet. Can't afford it after buying the micro SD. :-)
nickmanderfield @ Jun 29th 2006 4:38PM
the E815 is trash, i work at bestbuy and we were told to push the e815 because it was an atrisk (no longer or soon to be discontinued) and if we have any problems with customers with their e815s direct them to moto

I just got a LG VX 8300 From Verizon Today. I have to say that I am pretty impressed. I recently had sprint, and I thought that they had the best reception, but after using this phone for one day, it picks up better than sprint ever did. This phone is capable of doing some much, I have played with it constantly for about 6 hour's and I am still discovereing new stuff that it does, as for I am sure that I will for weeks to come. It take a really good picture for a phone. I got a buy one get one free on Verizons website, and my total came out to be $52.00. It is a really nice phone, and has more than exceeded my expectations.

The e815 is TRASH!! I am in the process of upgrading and am looking for other phones. After this, I am going to steer clear of motorola all together. Ive had mine just shy of a year and have had problems with it since I got it. We thought we upgraded from our LGs that we had for 2 years but I would have just stayed with those compared to this thing. I believe Im going to get the LG 8300 and have been reading pretty good reviews on it thus far.
Heather @ Aug 15th 2006 3:53PM
Is there anyway to make the front display light stay on all the time. That seems to be the only complaint I have with this phone. Otherwise it's pretty cool.
Sniper @ Aug 26th 2006 8:34AM
The 8300 can play MP3's. Open the phone and hit the OK button, punch "0" 7 times to unlock the Service Menu, scroll up once to Music Settings and hit OK, Enable MP3.
JEN @ Nov 11th 2006 9:19PM
IS VERIZON THE ONLY ONE WHO WILL BE CARRING THIS PHONE? IT SOUNDS REALLY COOL, BUT I JUST CAN'T LEAVE CINGULAR... WILL THEY EVER GET IT?
Eric @ Jan 20th 2007 10:42AM
I'm getting this phone this weekend. I can't wait. It looks excellent
Rick Droske @ Mar 26th 2007 11:43PM
Just got an 8300 recently. Unless my documentation is lying it still uses microSD not mini. Haven't upgraded that yet so if anyone is sure please post.
Using some pretty cool features with the Bluetooth. BitPim software works well for downloading the pictures/videos and uploading ringtones and mp3's.
Very cool is dialing #777 for free internet access (minutes only) and having phone act as wireless modem. Speed is only so so, measured at 133kbps but its good enough to check email etc.
billp @ Apr 14th 2007 8:59AM
the lg vx8300 is a exelent phone I WOULD NOT TRADE IT FOR ANY THING it more than meets my needs in my life style
