.mobi domain launches
The somewhat controversial .mobi top-level domain name is officially open for business today but, as we reported earlier this year, it's not exactly open to everyone (yet). As of today, only trademark holders in the mobile industry are able to register domains. They'll have until June 12th to secure their name, at which point the domain will be open to any trademark holder -- everyone else has to wait until August 28th. We'll just have to wait and see if the domain flies or goes the way of .biz.

.biz didn't do that poorly. Of course it's not as popular as .com,.net,.org,.info, but there is still a little under 2 million domains registered. I do believe that .mobi will be a massive flop. People are just going to buy generic terms and use them for cybersquatting.
