And saying only GSM brands are worth mentioning is stupid. Verizons been pushing EVDO for a year now. Obviously it is SmartPhone but are the marketing peeps just idiots? The wheel is shown browsing the Pocket PC Start Menu on the screen of the Q for Pete's sake. Also - it mentions Office Mobile (Word, etc...) but I'm unaware of this on the Smartphone platform... is this new or just another mix-up between Pocket PC and Smartphone?

Chris

Comments on Motorola Q to launch exclusively with Verizon Wireless

The reason why these hot new smartphones aren't coming out in GSM first is simple: in the US, the GSM networks, and that would be mainly Cingular, since no one expects much from T-Mobile, are lagging behind in their rollout of 3G broadband connectivity.

One of the main selling points to these new units is that you can enjoy web surfing, streaming media, downloading large email attachments, etc., on a 3G broadband wireless network.

If Cingular wasn't so slow in rolling out their 3G network, you probably would have seen this phone or one of the new Treos already available in GSM.

So I applaud Verizon and Sprint for their being ahead of the curve in their launch of 3G services. And let's not forget, that the number of CDMA subscribers in the US alone is rather large...something over 90 million. So this is not a trivial market by any means.

Thought

Comments on Motorola Q to launch exclusively with Verizon Wireless

i had cingular for a long time and i have to say edge was pretty slow and useless compared to EV-DO. so i'm excited that phones are coming out for cdma, i just can't wait for a sprint version.

i'm still not sold on it being a smartphone over a pocket pc, but i could live with it if the user interface was ok and i have to say that slim form factor would look much nicer in my jean's pocket.

sixsixty

Comments on Motorola Q to launch exclusively with Verizon Wireless

The page: http://www.vzwshop.com/q/

Jerod
